Re: Drivers side cam seal blow out
Blow out as in fail or blow out as in actually push out of the bore? It's only gonna come out of the bore if there's pressure behind it. Usually that involves ancillary turbo plumbing sending pressure into the crankcase or tons of blowby. If the seal just failed it's probably a result of age or sitt...

Can you stick a bore scope in it and confirm that the impeller is spinning?

Re: Post head gasket frustration
You almost certainly have an electronics issue. The computer is trying to give the engine fuel/spark for conditions that do not match what the reality inside the engine is. Sounds like something is failing when it goes into open loop based on what you said about warm/cold. To get problems this big y...

Re: Will 95-99 doors fit a 93-94
I haven't bolted them on. Just measured. And I don't know if the windows work because they're rolled down and I didn't feel like probing around with a battery and test leads to compare.

Re: Will 95-99 doors fit a 93-94
Got the doors. Rears will definitively fit. Front needs the body line where the door sheet-metal kicks up around the mirror modified. I haven't tried to install them on anything but the physical shape of both doors is definitely correct for the door opening in a 1st gen body. They were free so I'm j...

Well, I'm gonna try it. Probably won't get around to installing anything until at least the summer since all my doors open and close at present. I'll take measurements after I pick them up though. Waiting on the seller to get back to me with the address.

Where's the interference point? The body shell didn't change substantiall between 1st and 2nd gen. Looking at pictures maybe the revised design around the point where the A-pillar, fender and door meet might be a problem. https://static.carthrottle.com/workspace/uploads/posts/2016/02/d9067d1e56d5c85...

Will 95-99 doors fit a 93-94
I'm not asking if the body lines will match. I'm not asking if the switches will work without wiring I'm not asking if the hinges are compatible I just wanna know if the doors open, close, latch and not leak. A set came up for sale locally for a giveaway price and I figure that if they fit I should ...

Re: Tyler's Legacy SS.... under an impreza shell
The timing belt is just standard cogged belt in 30mm (I think, you should measure) width. There's no reason you can't go through the Gates, Goodyear or Dayco catalog, find a belt product line you like and then order up the relevant part number. Cogged belts are sold by a part number that designates ...

Clearly fuel is going missing somewhere that the computer doesn't know about (i.e. somewhere other than the injectors). You've got a rusted or leaking fuel line somewhere.

Another vote for "it's just coolant at ~14psi, use whatever pump you want"
If you must have something that comes from an automotive application then go on Rockauto and look for auxiliary pumps for vans and SUVs with rear heat.

As long as you match the color the Legacy/Outback rear bench is unchanged through '99 (unless the SS got something special that I am unaware of).

Unless the SS got special seats the rear seats up through '99 will be compatible.
I'm on completely the wrong coast but I have one I'd part with if someone wants it.

Re: Resurfacing 2.2na block
Buy a cheap Chinese surface plate and feeler gauge and use that to measure flatness. Even the crappiest surface plate will greatly exceed the flatness requirements for this job. If it turns out you do need to surface it everything in this video applies to a block as well as a head. https://www.youtu...

Re: FWD to AWD swap
I gotta hurry up and get my front end loader out of the garage so I can do this swap. A solenoid is failing when I do a 1->2->WOT->1 shift sequence. I hope it makes it until spring so I can add my (never seen road salt so I don't drive it in the winter) van back to the fleet rotation. I do have a '9...

FWD to AWD swap
Trans is starting to go out in the '93 FWD. I have all the physical stuff I need in order to swap to an AWD trans. I have the AWD transmission control module. What wiring do I need to do to support it? (or if someone could point me in the direction of the relevant wiring diagrams that would help too)

Re: Tyler's Legacy SS.... under an impreza shell
I'm really unfamiliar with what happened to the various platforms after they all diverged from the basic Legacy based floor-pan and suspensions in the mid-'00s When you say "the track would be narrower" you mean narrower than an '06+ STI or narrower than a stock 90s/00s Impreza/Legacy/Outb...

Where did you get the aluminum lower control arm? Is it a aftermarket piece or is it from an OE application?

Re: EJ20 Series 1 Timing Kit
I just use the cheap aftermarket kits. These engines are non-interference, easy to work on and the belt pretty much always outlasts the idlers in my experience. I don't see the need to spend 3x as much for peace of mind considering how small the potential inconvenience is.

Re: Hood release cable
I'd recommend posting a WTB in the parts shed as there are plenty of folks that have beaters/spares sitting around. I think I may have one in the turbo wiring harness I have stashed in the garage if all else fails. How big of a PITA is it to change cables? I haven't gotten around to practicing at t...

Hood release cable
'93 legacy, rockauto, amazon, ebay autozone, napa, etc all came up empty when I searched for a hood release cable (not exactly unexpected). Anyone know if I can use the release cable from something else? It looks like there's a handful of vehicles with cables that are very similar visually. Should I...

Re: rear subframe interchange
Ok, I'll look into foresters since they're common around here compared to 90s stuff. I'm probably going to have to buy a rear sub frame on line since pretty much everything here will be rusted out. I should be able to get the handful of brackets and stuff from a junkyard car. From there I wait for a...
