I haven't been to the strip yet, but I've done a few stop light runs with her. I have an auto so launching's a little different. most people have a hard time keeping it stopped since the engine wants to over-torque the brakes. when you're at a standstill, shift in to neutral and press as hard as you...

I thought I was still in NASIOC off-topic when I read the subject line, so I laughed for a while.

anyways, yeah just keep beating on it. try a carbon steel rotary brush attachment on your drill. and make DAMN sure you're wearing a face mask. that stuff is wicked carcinogenic.

the "tick" is jsut a subaru thing. just about every older subie has it, and most new subies have it in cold weather. it's a boxer engine thing. it will certainly do it LES if you get new HLAs and steam clean the carbon out. but don't fret if you still hear a little. especially if the engin...

no place to host... it's the little hose that comes off of the throttle body, comes in from the left horizontaly and the little fitting turns 90 deg down into the throttle body. I'm pretty sure that's the vac line that leads to the dreaded purge valve. just try relocating it to another place. eithe...

I'll hit the pick-apart yard tomorrow and see what I can dig up. do you want me to get the section of pipe that I used to put the recirc valve on? it comes off a volvo. needs a little slicing, but has nice curvature. or are you getting a cutom pipe fabb'd?

is this on the NA legacy or one of the turbo legacies? the NA 2.2s get a hum like that when the silencer is removed. my wife even gets it on her 2.2l impreza.

the piece for the recirc valve is from an intercooled volvo turbo of some sort. late 80's to early 90's of some sort. I had to chop off some of it to get it to fit. there's a short arm that curves a lot on one side of the bung, and a long arm that's pretty much straight. chop off about the whole lon...

I'd like to nominate this for a sticky. this seems to be one of those universal issues like the engine hesitation. I'll check mine tonight even tho I'm selling the legacy. I don't want the crank pulley falling off on anyone.

turbo MT also has shot peened gears and the hydraulic pull-type clutch.

the TC is different on the turbo AT I think.

but yeah, until you at least get to 200 whp, I don't think it'll be too much of an issue.

I'm trying to sell it for 4k. She's in remarkable condition for her age. teh only rust is where the original owners didn't wsah where the front mudflaps meet the body. the engine runs perfectly. there's only 1 minor oil leak, and I think it's the right camshaft seal. PITA, but not very critical. als...

the third car is a 1997 Impreza L. that's the wife's car. yup, we're a subaru family :D . teh TS has 84,000 miles on it, so it's been really tough to unload. we've been trying to sell it, but we just can't get enough ot make it worth it. at this point, I can't see getting any more than 12,000 for th...

honestly, just hunt down a legacy turbo. the 2 cars are so different. it would probably be cheaper jsut to buy a legacy turbo near you than to piece together a kit. a proper turbo kit with mechanical bits and electronics will run upwards of 4000 or so. you can find a used legover for at least a thou...

yeah, it's somewhere in the 3800-4200 range. definitely in 1st gear. I think in others as well. even at part throttle it seems to have a little more pep if the revs creep up to that point. I thought it was a resonant "sweet spot" in the intake or something. like that's when all the engine'...

it sucks, but I have to. can't afford to keep a 3rd car since I have no job. I just want to say I really like hanging out here. I've been spending more time here than on NASIOC, and I'm a mod over there :D . I've only had this car for a few months... I knew nothing about it and little about turbos i...

bigger turbo = better gas milage?

hey all. curios on this one. if I got a bigger turbo, would it improve my gas milage? assuming I'm not at WOT all the time, I'd have a less restricted exhaust, and I wouldn't be nearly as much into boost on the highway. wouldn't this all work out to get better gas milage so long as I drove conservat...

it'll sound kinda funny. it has a cool flutter noise, not the disney animatronics pneumatic "psshhhhh" that atmospheric BOVs have.

I noticed my injectors seem to be maxxed at 15psi. I've taken the boost up to 20psi (for a very short time, mind you), but at that point the injectors were REALLY pooping out on me, and a/f started to move into the unknown (read: dangerous) zone. not to hijack, but I have a quick question. you say ...

20mm IIRC

take a metric tape measure, wrap it around a straight section of the swaybar, and devide the circumfrence by 3.14 . should come out to around 20mm.

pondering tranny swap...

one of these days I may feel the urge to go stick. wehter my tranny dies of torque bind or just old age, it'll happen sooner or later. 300-500 bucks on a new (used) tranny will be cheaper than servicing the old one. another possibility is that my baby's body will most likely go before the engine. I'...

be REAL careful when dealing with that thing. in terms of moving it or servicing it or whatever. the nipple (huh huh... I said nipple) on the resonator box that it connects to will break off fairly easily, and the check valve between the canister and hte resonator also has a tendancy to get brittle ...

I would LOVE to find an RX hatchback in shape like that. older subies rock. my wife had a loyale wagon back in the day. we took her to florida and back from MA when it had 200,000 miles on it. she took it like a trooper. and those engines spun awful high at 75-80 MPH since they were 3 speed autos.
