Yep, I must be old.

I don't feel old, but it's hard to believe my wagon is almost old enough to drive by itself. I updated my post in the MISC forum to reflect the sales taxes. Total was $13,669.49 out the door.

Oops. I did not include the sales taxes with $13,102 figure. Out the door was $13,669.49. I still have the sales contract.

How I bought my Legacy, 1989 (kind of long)

When I lived in Atlanta, I had a very wealthy friend who bought several cars a year. They were one of his hobbies; BMW’s, Mercedes, Porsches, Nissan Z’s, VW campers, etc. He just loved cars, and he had to have the latest new ride. I was lucky enough to get to accompany him on quite a few of his purc...

Any Original Owners from 1990?

I found my original window sticker today in my Legacy owner's portfolio. Legacy L wagon, fwd, 1990, 5MT. Base price: $13,049. Special paint (Sand stone) 120. Value plus package: net after discount 995. (a/c, cruise, 80 watt stereo w/cassette, equalizer) Customs user fee(?) 20. Roof rack. 199. Dealer...

This thread is too much fun!

Just surfing through the Ashtray has been way too much fun. Between the "Blondestar" audio and the Tucker Max story, and a lot of other stories, I have LMAO and picked up some useful tips about my car, too. Great work, guys, but it hurts my productivity.

Well, hell. I C-clamped the gussets today while I had the door panel off and was changing out the lock cylinder. I will post when the scabs come off from that job. What a PITA. C-clamp treatment didn't help me--afterward, I got up to about 40 on city streets and figured that out immediately. Damn. I...

Finally got my lock re-keyed and installed today. The lock work was fun; R&R-ing the backing plate on the latch was a real bitch, though.

I routinely get 30-31mpg on the highway, highest ever for a single tank was 32.3 on an all interstate run at about 75mph. Around 26 in town.

Ain't it great? We are invisible in our old cars as we blow by the cops. I drove a friend's "arrest me red" Porsche the other day and was totally paranoid. I came home and hugged my old wagon.

One of the great things about Legacy's and older M3's is the stealth factor. They aren't flashy like the newer models, so they don't attract a lot of police attention. I was cruising at 80 the other day in a 70 zone on I-10 when a new Dodge Magnum passed me doing about 2 mph faster as we ran up on 3...

I am patiently waiting until a friend here is ready to sell me his '95 M3--one owner, 50K, lovingly cared for, and a blast to drive. I'll keep the wagon to haul stuff and tow the sailboat. I love her but she's no sports car.

I will be replacing my lock cylinder in a few days, so I will do the clamp therapy while I have the interior panel off. I will be a happy camper if it works. Thanks.

Those damned door dings..

I really hate the inconsiderate jerks who ding our cars in parking lots, as I know you do. Today I tried something I have been meaning to do for years, and it worked amazingly well. I took a burnisher, a tool that artists use to smooth ragged lines in etching or engraving plates, and went to work on...

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I still have that annoying wind noise, and haven't yet seen a good remedy. I don't think I understand the C-clamp therapy, either. What do you squeeze? The outside mirror mount and inside mount at the top of the door? I have tried stuffing strips of black craft foam ...

Thanks for the input. Is 600 grit the way to go before I spray the thing?

Painting a roof rack?

I've searched the bbs and found nothing on this so far and was wondering if anyone has had success in repainting the roof rack cross bars. Mine have peeled and look crappy. I wonder if a little 600 grit and some flat black spray paint might work for a little while, at least. Anyone have a better sug...

The FAA now has the new "Sport Pilot" classification in effect, and no medical exams are necessary--just a valid driver's license. Of course, there are many other rules but you can get information from the EAA's website: http://www.sportpilot.org Flying is great fun, but bring your wallet!...

That would be great, Steve. Saw pics of your wagon and it really looks great. Wish I could find some nice wheels for mine, but have almost new tires on it, so I guess that will wait a while.

Thanks,

Don

Well, there I was, ready to ask about my lock when I happened on this thread. Glad I did some homework. Now to find a lock to re-key for the driver's door. My Ignition lock is feeling a little sloppy, my OEM key died years ago, and my spare key is getting pretty worn, too. I think I see a trip to th...

Thanks for the response. I removed the access panel and finally found the black connectors. They were pretty well hidden. Will proceed from there. I haven't noticed any performance or gas mileage problems, but the CEL is annoying. This is a great forum--I've been scouting around and have found answe...

Wow, thanks for the quick response. I have a five speed, FWD wagon. I tried the green connectors, which were the only ones I could find that matched, and got some very interesting sounds, but no help on the flashing engine codes. I appreciate your help.

Check Engine Light

I have been under the dash of my '90 Legacy trying to find the leads to connect to read my Check Engine Light codes with no success. I would appreciate some help for exactly what to look for. The old gal has only 146K on her, and runs like a top. I think I'll keep her.
