Finally a conclusion to this problem. After a few months of trouble shooting I found that my TCM was shot. Found a new used one at the junk yard.. popped it in and torque bind is gone! Thanks for everyone’s help with this problem.

Yes, I'm familiar with torque bind. But when the transmission was pulled from the donor car it had no binding.

Yeah I know, next time I will grab a tranny from the same year. But the one I swapped in I got for free so I figured I would give it a shot. Interesting you bring up the tire upgrade problem. I put on 15" wheels on it... i'll swap the 14's back on to see if the problem goes away. What is kinda ...

Yes I tried the TPS from the doner. It was not compatable. The tranny would not shift at all with the 95 TCU.

I swapped back in the 4.11 diff and I have just learned to live with the torque bind.

Thanks,

Transmission swap done.. but have problems..help

I have a 1990 Legacy L with a bad AWD automatic tranny. So I found a 95 Legacy LSI donor car. The donor cars transmission was flawless. No torque bind, shifted fine, etc... I confirmed the final drive ratio for the two years to both be 4.11. So I installed the transmission into my 90. Started it up,...

95 Legacy EJ22 swap into 90 Legacy

I have a 90 Legacy in excellent condition except for the drive train. I have a wrecked 95 Legacy with a good engine and tranny. Would I see any problems with swapping the motor? Looks like I might have to change out the intake and then the rear diff to keep the ratios the same??? Any advice is welco...

Help identifying gear ratio on transmission

I'm buying a tranny and I need to find the final drive ratio of the front diff. I don't have the car it came out of to check the rear diff.. .but I do have some identification numbers I grabbed off the tranny. Will any of these numbers tell me the ratio? The tranny is out of a 96 Legacy.

Well, I pulled the tranny pan and found big chunks of metal and a washer looking thing in the bottom of the pan. Not good! I'm pretty sure it's toast. I cleaned the pan, installed it back on and filled it up with atf. A few days later it wouldn’t go into any gear. *sigh*. It's cool though, I've alwa...

Yeah it is... I was kinda shocked to see the 4.11 sticker on the diff.. but Legacy777 is right about the 90 model year having 4.111.

Were the 1991 legacy Autos also a 4.11? I found a 91 auto tranny but the yard had no clue if it was a 4.11. I'm scared it's a 3.9.

No reverse or 2nd and tranny grinding on a 90 Legacy

I just bought a 1990 Legacy L+AWD sedan with the auto tranny yesterday. It's in beautiful condition inside and out, only problem is the tranny is broken. My original plan is to just replace or rebuild it but I would like to see if anyone has any advice for me. I'm pretty dumb about autos since all m...

If Subaru did sell a keyless entry syestem there must be Legacys out there with lock motors in the drivers door. Vrg3, let me know how your install goes. Where did u get your univ...

I had no idea about the thermostat issue. I'll try the Subaru one, does anyone have a part number? I found no air bubbles in the overflow. I also bleed the cooling system right by unscrewing that screw. Blown head gasket huh? It's possible I guess. I have no coolant in the oil and it never blows whi...

Overheating Problem

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and I’m glad to have found it. I hope someone can help with my overheating problem. I have a 1991 Legacy wagon 202,000 miles. Out of the blue my car started to over heat I mean really over heat with the temp gauge pegged at the top. Pulling over to the side of the...
