*cough cough ahem* the duty c failed in mine and I ended up stuck in front wheel drive by default. I ran with it like that for 65000 kms with no ill effect. If your tyres are all the same size then movement between the plates in the clutch pack will be minimal ( unless you indulge in a lot of wheel ...

I had a similar problem turned out I had leaks in the ex manifold pre 02 sensor. Oxygen introduced into the ex manifold will throw the 02 sensor and with our ex arrangment there can be negative pulse passing through it. This can draw air into the manifold and cause problems (mean backfires too if ur...

soooorted :D Threw the ex manifold back on along with a new knock sensor and took it for a thrash............ Goes like it did when I got it in 99-smooth, quiet with lots of balls and no shake in the motor any more. Did the earth mod as well and there is an improvement in smoothness and general driv...

Uh ok had a real close look at things and a bit of a think and came up with this. The rearmost exhaust valve isn't quite sealing fully sometimes as is evident by the wetness around the seat which smells of raw fuel. Why it isn't sealing is a mystery. All valves were refaced and lapped in by me and p...

flames form no:3 exhaust port/shakey motor -sorted
Hi all, Just refaced valves and cut seats on an ej20g. and got it all back in and running. I noticed the motor was shakey and made a chuffing noise before and after this so I removed the exhaust manifold, started it up and got underneath for a looksee at the valves in action. Firstly..... VERY loud ...

I believe if the o2 sensor croaks the ecu runs in open loop mode which gives crap fuel mileage. Mine, as I have found, has been dead for the last 3 years but the ecu thinks the o2 sensor is fine with no codes coming up. I just got second hand one(bosch 3 wire oem part) and will fit tonight. I went f...

All sorted Josh I got it abck together last night (worked into the wee smalls actually) I had a good look into the upper assembly that was still in the car and it became apparent where those 3 springs go. As a note of interest the valve body wasnt even torqued-the bolts were finger tight. ...

I have photos to upload but I dont know how to get them hosted. Basically there are 4 photos of the upper vlave body. The wire that controls shift solenoid 1 has a join in it as all solenoids were replaced in 2000 and the reconditioner used the existing harness. The connections are soldered and wrap...

It's been along time but I thought I had better follow this up for the benifit of others. I ended up replacing the duty c solenoid and things worked like they should and there has been no problem since. I left the manual switch wired into the duty c circuit so I had 50/50 4wd on demand. Just have to...

Got home and did the present problem diagnostic (u no- drive manual on, 3rd manual off, 2nd manual on, 1st manual off half depress accellerator and it flashed code 15 which is s...

Can't hurt to change tranny fluid as this is a normal servicing requirement every 50,000kms or so. Remove the trans sump as well and clean/replace the filter mesh. The pan holds another 1/2 ltr or so of fluid that u can't get out without taking the pan off or sticking your car on a mad lean. In shor...

Finally my prob is sorted and the cause is so incredibly simple. Firstly I will clarify a little history. Trans rebuilt at 76k Fluid left to run UNCHANGED for 80k In the trans sump pan there is a ring magnet to collect steel particulate. Trannies make a LOT of metal after a rebuild. After 80k the ma...

No probs! Mine is just a faulty duty c sol and will need replacing. Even tho the resistance checks out fine, The sol is knackered-not opening when the voltage drops. It will sting me NZ$168 for a new one if I put it in myself which is no prob as I've had it out b4. The tranny mongrels want the whole...

Here's what I did: I'm assuming you have an auto. First disconnect the battery!!!!! remove all the plastic junk around the gear shift until you have exposed the electric switches and wires. I'm putting a switch on that wire so it will be awd on demand cos I cant leave it disconnected in 4wd. It's no good for the diffs cos I get torque bind on sharp turns. Get it fixed wh...
