Re: what does this do
I'd guess air suspension, but I've never seen what the switch for it looks like. If you don't have air, yours has probably been converted to steel springs.

Re: ME Magazine Gasoline vs. Diesel Engine Article
I've done the unscientific testing and that's what I've found and it's something I was surprised at myself, but I'm also not saying it's absolutely certain with my tests being highly varied tank-to-tank. But, what I think is happening is more that I can coast in neutral much farther than I can keepi...

Re: My JDM Legacy B4 RSK
Glad I'm not tall. I think a big part of the 1st gen's really extraordinary steering feel (at least with an aftermarket wheel) is the power steering system itself. I don't know if it's something with the rack or the pump, but I'd love to know myself as steering feel is far more important to me than ...

Re: Xise's 1993 Legacy Turbo
No, you could see the spot welds. The way the suspension was designed, the strut had to fit perfectly into the ball joint, but fitting a compressor into the strut tower was incredibly difficult, so trying to align it when you couldn't get the angle of the ball joint to quite make it was not fun. End...

Beats the Mazda3 where the balljoint is welded into the control arm, which is over $400.

Re: ME Magazine Gasoline vs. Diesel Engine Article
In a completely unscientific study I conducted, I found coasting in gear whenever possible gained several mpg over being on the gas more like a normal idiot and coasting in neutral down hills or to stops gained maybe twice as much as in-gear coasting averaged over the course of a tank. With the DI F...

Re: ME Magazine Gasoline vs. Diesel Engine Article
I think he means there's less energy wasted as heat. What I think is greatly overstated is pumping losses and engine efficiency. The important thing is that a vehicle is an entire system, not just an engine, and the thing to strive for should be the overall efficiency in how it results in mpg, not a...

Do you need the chime for legal reasons or do you just not hate it with the intensity that I do?
Using the auto indicator lights for the DCCD is a cool idea. Are you going to change the markings for the LEDs so that they light up something other than PRNDL?

Yeah, I second looking into the other state thing. When I was going to build my car as a tadpole trike, my plan B to get around ambiguous MA state laws was to have it registered in the very easy NH through family (though as a motorcycle and I would've preferred it as a car). Once titled as a custom ...

Are you painting them? If you are, I'd recommend a long bath in something stronger that will draw the years of oil out of the metal. I used the same stuff on mine and the paint peeled off even after cleaning with acetone and using an acid etching primer.

Re: N/A Turbo EJ22E with EJ22T internals?
The turbo pistons ARE different, but they will fit. They're tougher, but not bulletproof and will drop your CR to 8:1 in an EJ22 with stock heads. Custom pistons could also be ordered with different CR's, if that's what you'd want.

Re: N/A Turbo EJ22E with EJ22T internals?
The internals are the same size, but if you're going to try to get turbo pistons, you might want to look into aftermarket ones. Rods are forged from the factory, but they can be improved as well, if you do aftermarket pistons. But of course, then it can become an expensive game of "if this, the...

Re: Best Power/Gas Milage Compromise JDM NA Engine?
Ah, that does sound like a different kind of O2 sensor. Not sure a Bosch kit would work. We used to have 1-wire sensors, but not for a long time. I can't recall the last time I saw one. I'm guessing the steel around it is some kind of shield, but I can't say what would happen if you try splicing it....

Re: Group buy on a Carbon or Fiberglass Hood
I wonder if a NACA-type scoop would work or if it's too low a pressure zone there, but something like the front of an Alfa Romeo Montreal, but not fake, of course, and set back on the hood. OR the scoop could be located in the front to take advantage of the high pressure with a channel for the air t...

Re: Crankshaft Pulley Wobble
Did you tighten the one you're driving first? If the pulley is still on there, you're probably fine, but if you keep driving it as it loosens, it's likely to come off and cause damage when it does. You also don't need a full keyway if it is damaged. As long as there's enough meat left to the keyway ...

These are bulletproof drivetrains as long as the carbs have been swapped out and some of the Lucas stuff fixed (I had other earlier small bumper 260 and it had Lucas Electrical stuff. My 240Z was Hitachi. Don't know what happened there.). Decently fun to drive and getting rarer. The 240's have gone ...

I'd say try it and see what happens. I'd think you'd be fine. Worst case, it doesn't run right and you reconnect them, I guess. The N/A ECU shouldn't be be paying attention to it either way. I'd just weatherproof the connectors in case you want to use them again.

Re: Best Power/Gas Milage Compromise JDM NA Engine?
Unless there's a different standard for O2 sensors, you can use any sensor with the same number of wires. You can definitely join the wires up. in the US, they sell universal kits (usually made by Bosch) where you buy by the number of wires. The kits come with a connector you use to splice the new O...

Yeah, I'd love to see this in person as well. Not only is it a cool project, but the workmanship looks excellent. And to think, I was originally upset to see such a mint original go under the modding knife. I take that all back!
