I think I am going with the struts and springs from the RS with new top-hats in the rear. A 1.5" drop won't bother me and I am not going to push this car as far as handling. My Impreza that is for sale has AGX struts with Ziggen springs and most of the suspension and brakes came fron a Turbo Le...

2003 RS struts and springs for a '91L+ Lecacy?

I have some almost new struts and springs from a 2003 Impreza RS and want to put them on my latest a '91 L+ Legacy. The legacy springs do have some taper and are smaller at the top. This car will mainly be used on the road so ride is important and I wouldn't mind it being a bit lower. Do I buy the n...

Not really, the way he looked at it was #4 was the only cyl where the water didn't have a flow around the cyl. and an exit and had to "turn around " and come back to the crossover was slowed down and enough volume wouldn't pass to pick up the heat. The coolant volume and speed are critical...

Well a common complaint is #4 and I got curious and measured the temperature on the head and #4 is hotter and should be more likely to detonate I just didn't know why it was hotter. At the time we were doing some work on a real stock car and the owner sent an automotive engineer down to see (check o...

oh... you wanted to know about the new Torquechip. It is microprocessor based and adds fuel all the way through plus it leaves the original boost controller alone except for raising the limit and I left that fixed. It also flattens out the timing curve a bit and tricks the ECU into not retarding the...

I have been real busy. If you do the math the limit should be 17lbs I have run 20lbs for very short bursts with no real problems that I know of although I did have to replace my motor for a #2 rod bearing that shouldn't be boost related but boost probably didn't help. If anyone has the same problem ...

Question

Ok I have built boost, fuel, and timing control into the Torquechip and have set boost at 15lbs. I did this as we ran into fuel delivery problems with The EJ22t with a stock fuel pump and injectors at 17lbs boost and had a lean out. We did have a 13.3 second car but were worried as it did lean out at...

Please let us know the address of the ata mechanic I think it would pay me to drive to IL from Denver to have the work done. One thing about syn oils that we found out years ago on Porsche's was that the syn oils were thinner at low temperatures and the oil would leak past the rings and would get in...

Here's a tip on ignition relays, The relay in the Loyale series is a lot better than any relay in the Legacy. It has gold contacts rather than the silver\cadmium contacts in the later relays and it should last forever if you get one from a wrecking yard.

Most transmission coolers have a restriction in them to prevent the fluid from circulating too fast in cold weather from what I could find out about them. Here's an idea that worked for me, a watercooled motorcycle engine radiator. Mine is from a Honda GoldWing 1600cc. Most motorcycle junkyards won'...

I don't think they have many EJ22's but I do know that quite a few of the EJ20t motors come from Europe and some of them are bad. We had one with a cracked block .I talked to someone in NZ and he said that some good EJ20 motors can be had but be careful when buying any high output motors as the good...

A lot of purge valves will check ok and then fail in operation they heat up a bit and then open. A check for this is to attach a meter to the contacts and then push backwards on the connector part of the valve while holding it. This simulates the expansion of the valve while it it is hot and the wir...

The clutch is different but the factory must have missed a few things on the turbo MT we diaassembled and sent out for testing on all parts.
Make the price on the PDM turbo kit $2600 and $3200 with a intercooler.

Check with pdmturbos.com he has a base kit at about $3200 and I wouldn't worry about the transmission until you get up to the 300hp that is where we have been seeing failures. The only difference in the turbo and n/a transmissions is the heat treatment on the mainshaft as far as we can tell but ther...

This has been done and the result of EJ20t heads on a EJ22 block is not a good combination it will give you a compression ratio of less than 7:1 and a estimated power of around 150hp I think we have most of this engine left and I am sure it could be had for very reasonable price.

Number three main bearing it is the thrust bearing and a lot of them do show wear on high milage engines. One way to at least slow down the wear is to put the transmission in neutral at stops and engage the clutch as the pressure is against that bearing when the clutch is disengaged. The worn bearin...

Also there is only one wire at a time to disconnect if you should hit on a ground that doesn't quite work. On the sensor grounds it is usually best to bring them all back to a point near the ECU and then ground them all in one point.
