Re: Sounds like missing a cylinder above 60 MPH?
FYI, a failing O2 sensor can cause the ECU to run really rich and you have over-rich mis-fires. I fooled around with that for a few months. Thanks for the heads-up! The problem is definitely in the steering system, though. Definitely not an engine problem any more- she purrs like a kitten! But once...

Re:
All right, nevermind. Found the problem. #3 plug was not seated in the hole, due to the crush washer jamming itself on the plug threads at an angle. Went to change the plugs, and that one was barely hand tight. That's what the sound and shudder was: the #3 cylinder was hemorraging compression out o...

Thought I'd tack this question on instead of posting a whole new thread: Is it possible or even worth it to remove the purge control solenoid valve (even though it's kind of a pain in the ass to get to) and clean it out with brake cleaner or something, like you could with a sticky AIC valve? I agree...

PROBLEM FIXED!
OK so I've fixed my battery drainage problem. I did two things at the same time, so I'm not sure which one of them fixed the problem. First, I put in a new set of battery cables (at only $8 a piece, why not?). Second, I adjusted the striker plates on my doors so that the "door ajar" lights...

Actually, I bought this EXACT set of bulbs off ebay; and yes, they are garbage. They worked great for about a week and then one burned out, followed by the other one 4 days later. I was already in the parts store buying a new set of Sylvania bulbs less than 2 weeks after I received these junkers in ...

Slow Battery Drainage- Corroded Cables?
So just this last weekend my Leggy's battery went dead for no apparent reason. Bought the battery brand new about 5 months ago, and haven't had any problems up until this point. Then it just started doing this thing where every time I turn the car off, the battery loses all of its juice over the cou...

Actually 2.2 engines have the same big rubber spark plug boots to keep debris out, but trust me, LOTS of stuff still manages to get down there. My problem was also apparent both before and after I changed plugs and wires. It wasn't until I looked for that specific problem that the problem went away....

Here Bro, I had a similar problem, but was able to find out what was causing it. Here is a link to a previous thread in which I discussed the topic quite thoroughly. Hope it helps.

I also reccommend the NGK V-power plugs.

Yeah if the cam sensor is bad, the car wouldn't run and would probably throw a check engine light. You can usually get a replacement sensor at a junk yard for $5 or less, and it only takes about 5 minutes to swap it out. If somehow you were able to get a sensor, go to where the car is at, and swap t...

Uh, why don't you just replace it yourself? It's really not difficult, even for folks who are not the most mechanically inclined. There's more than enough information on the subject on this site. I say screw paying somebody else to do your labor; even licensed Subaru mechanics screw up sometimes. Yo...

Power wire connected to ashtray rail???
So yesterday I was installing a new CD deck in my Leggy. When I pulled the stereo/cubby hole assembley out of the dash, I could see this wierd grey plastic piece that attaches to the ashtray rail on the passenger side. There's a plug going into the grey plastic piece with a red wire and a black wire...

I never even did that. I installed mine by locating the correct wires in the harness. The whole job took me a relaxed hour and was the easiest install I've ever done. I have no idea how these guys messed up so badly. I know this is a really old thread, but I just did a stereo install yesterday in m...

yeah but that's a low oil pressure light. You wait for that sucker to come on you'll have other problems... Yeah that light won't come on until you're down to about 2 quarts of oil, by which time a good many other problems have probably arisen. And once again, i reiterate my original point: if you ...

Does anyone know what a dipstick is?
I just gotta say it amazes me how many people have problems like this. Does anybody know what a dipstick is for? Why would somebody just add a bunch of oil and drive off without checking it first to make sure it's not overfilled? I don't mean to sound rude or cynical, but if you can't even take a lo...

You know, I was chasing down a ticking sound in my engine for months, only to find out I was hearing the fuel injectors and they're SUPPOSED to make that sound. Just be careful not to overfill. I just put in 4.5 qts, start it, let it run a few minutes, turn it off, let it sit a few and then ad .2 qts. In my legacy, if I add the full 4.8 qts, the oil is slightly past the full line on the dipstick. It is always better to be a tad low than too full. Too full w...

How to change A/C compressor clutch/bearing?
Hey, I just started having trouble with a wierd noise coming from my A/C compressor pump. It still works fine and everything, but it just started making a kinda ugly squeal sound, even when the pump is not actually on. So this lead me to believe that the clutch bearing inside the pump is shot. A rep...

Important to remember when changing plugs!
OK so something's been happening to my car lately; and I'm not sure if it's a common thing in Legacies or what, but it's something simple that has caused me several headaches and can easily be prevented/remedied. I was having a really strange cyclical sound coming out of my engine bay at highway spe...

Actually I was having a totally different problem, but I initially thought the coolant temp sensor was the culprit, so I changed it. It turned out to be something else, but I'm glad I changed the sensor anyway because when I took mine out, it fell apart in my hand; the plastic part where the electri...
