I get 21-23 around town and 25-29 on the highway depending on speed/style of driving in my 93 N/A 5MT wagon (I can clear 30 if I coast and go 65). It used to be higher before I put on the WRX wheels and tires. Since then my speedo has been accurate (used to be 10% over), and my MPG has dropped accor...

My Dad is having this exact problem (rapid clicks from glovebox) as well. If he puts on MaxAC the clicking is reduced considerably. More clicking occurs under load, while accelerating. Checking under the hood revealed it to be a loud click as the AC clutch engages/disengages repeatedly in rapid succ...

Another victory for the coolant temp sensor. Solved my rough idle at startup just fine. ECU is reset and not getting any more codes just yet. Thanks. I wonder, could i have saved the $40 that Autozone charged me by simply cleaning the old one? I didn't think of that until after I had it out and real...

Well, I read the codes (thanks for the excellent instructions at www.surrealmirage.com). On the standard diags, I read a 21 (water temp sensor), and in the "D-check" I came up clean (although it started flashing regularly before I got into 4th gear; the only event contrary to the instructi...

Any thoughts re my last post. I'm going to replace plugs and wires today, since that's easy and it needs it anyway. I'm not a car guy, but I'm trying, and could use some good ideas/guidance if it is possible based on the info in my last post. Thanks.

No overheating (since recent new water pump). No coolant disappearing. No overpressure or blown radiator cap. No water in oil. No oil in coolant. Just hard to start, then rough idle for up to 1 min post-ignition. During the 1 min, there is smoke from the tailpipe, but I would not characterize as &qu...

Autozone reader can check our codes right? The port below the dash is the same as our 00 Honda Odyssey anyway. My CEL is clicking on/off 3-4 times right after startup. Also, startup is getting more difficult and idling rougher right after startup (as smoke blows out tailpipe). Usually after parked f...

Update I checked all fluid levels and then started the car today. There was a clacking/grinding sound that was constant at first, but decreased over the span of 30 sec. until it intermittent and then gone altogether. No more smoke. The engine appears to be running smooth now (through entire RPM rang...

I just read all the way through the thread. I laughed, I cried. This stuff is as good as any novel. Ok, maybe its cuz my bearings are buzzing so loud I can't hear my stereo. I'll have to embark on a similar project, likely with someone else doing the work as I have no tools or aptitude. Somehow, I g...

Yeah, I'd read that. I guess you had some summary comments as to effort invested vs. results returned, and it wasn't looking good, but the thread didn't have much follow up in the weeks/months following, in terms of how you ended up liking the power/sound change... but I have found some of this else...

WRX exhaust for $1 on eBay... did i pay too much?

Will this work? Is this worth the effort? (1993 5mt na L wagon) I've tried reading similar posts, but my ignorance is getting in the way of my understanding... if you know what I mean. Please indulge the repeat. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7989291137&ssPageN...

Ok, last night I refilled what must have been 5-10 fl. ounces of Mercon brand ATF. I sure screwed up this time. I have yet to start the car to see what happens (the vagaries of going to work at 6 and getting home at 11pm). Even if it spins up beautifully, the question arises: How much damage did I d...

Holy S*&! I am an idiot. I was well aware that my power steering line had a slow leak and I was filling it rather than repair it (bad call). BUT, the car was inactive for the whole summer awaiting the water pump, and since I "reactivated" it after the repair, I forgot about the power s...

The smoke was from just above the grille... in the front of the car, middle of the hood. Sorry. I did not have a chance to raise the hood as I was late for work. I'll check it out tonight though. Think the PS pump is bad and dropping ATF? I guess the continual squeak could be explained by the belt t...

I got out while in gear... popping the clutch, lurching the car, and stalling the engine.

Smoke was from the front middle of the hood.

Now that I think about it, upon restart, there was a continual screeching noise.

Smoke & loss of power steering after popped clutch stall

Ok, This morning I stalled out my (stick shift '93) wagon by getting out when it was in gear... i have the excuse that it was an "emergency". Well, upon restart, I got smoke under the hood and appeared to have a loss of power steering. I parked it and took another car today. I am wondering...

but is the one in question any good? I've been told that a lot of them are crap strictly from a manufacturing standpoint (not meeting specs, etc). Unorthodox is supposedly good, but is this specific part? Has it been applied by anyone successfully?

OK, I think I have decided to resell/get rid of the turbo pump and get a regular non-turbo pump. Here is a link to the one I'm gonna get if its right. Anyone care to comment on the correctness of this pump (pic and URL to follow). I'm waiting on the part number. (1993 Leg Wagon, NA) http://cgi.ebay....
