225/50/16 or 205/45/16

Post by slowjoe »

i cant decide which! i am looking at general exclaim uhp's and the 225's are 21 pounds and have a bigger circumference and the 205's are 17 pounds and have a smaller circumference. having an N/A, i need all the help i can get to accelerate and a reduction on wheel size would help. the lighter tire would also help too. but the 225's would look very very nice and meaty. and they could possibly help with grip. oh and i'll be using this on the track. i'll be racing road courses this summer. so straightline acceleration will help because i have none compared to the other cars out there but since i am also a fwd, i need grip too. i know, if i want to get serious, i should get a more suitable car, but since i am just starting, i have no sponsors which means no money. and im doing it mostly for fun. but if i can get good enough and put up some decent times, then just maybe i'll be able to get a new car. but for now, its just the fwd n/a automatic wagon. unless of course someone has an old car they are willing to donate.

Lowered or stock hight?

My car is droped about 2" and with the stock WRX wheels & tires I had to roll the back fenders just a bit to stop the slight rubbing.

id go with the 225 just because you have that much more rubber touching the pavement and would probaly handle better right now my car has 235 and it handles awesome!!!

yeah, wider tires will pretty much always handle better. However, I don't think a 225 will fit for you. The tires will probably hit the spring perches on the struts (and the fenders and fender liners).. I have 225/50-16s on my +53 16x7 rs wheels, and they rub the fender liners in the front at high steering angles, as well as the front and rear fender lips slightly. Suspension is off an 04 sti with bigger swaybars which limits suspension travel and body roll significantly over stock.

Hey where do you live in socal?

Don't you mean 205/50 R16 VS 225/45 R16 ???? because 225/50 would be way taller than 205/45.
