Power wire connected to ashtray rail???

Post by codfizzle »

So yesterday I was installing a new CD deck in my Leggy. When I pulled the stereo/cubby hole assembley out of the dash, I could see this wierd grey plastic piece that attaches to the ashtray rail on the passenger side. There's a plug going into the grey plastic piece with a red wire and a black wire coming out of it and dissappearing into the dash with the rest of the wires.

Why in the hell would there be power wires running to the ashtray rail? Maybe it's just a relay for something else in the dash, and Subaru dicided on a really, really bizarre place to put it? I'll get a picture up of what I'm talking about ASAP. Really scratching my head with this one.

Could be. I didn't see a bulb in it but I'll double check. Do most Leggys have an ashtray light? Mine never has, but this might explain that. I'll take it off and check the under side for a bulb socket.

Mine has an ashtray light -- which does have a plug in the back of the deck area. heh, I actually used that point to wire in the light for my boost controller.

Yep, it was the ashtray light. Now I feel kinda dumb getting stumped by something so simple, but I've never had an ashtray light, so that thought hadn't even crossed my mind. Thanks for the help.

wow! I can't remember there being a light there. With my 93 wagon when I was really young don't recal it working. Maybe the L models didn't have it? Need to check my SS when I get it back.

lol yeah, smoking, seriously? I won't ever understand how you could get addicted to something that's so utterly disgusting to do. How can you get addicted to it when the first time you do it makes you want to puke? That was my experience with smoking.

I'm pretty sure all the legacies have the ashtry light. I think I remember mine having it but it never worked.

Come on, Man. Just because somebody smokes, that doesn't make them a stupid person. Smart, rational people still have flaws and vices, you know. We're all adults, and adults should be able to get advice from other adults without the "third-grader-everyone-who-smokes-is-a-bad-person-just-because-they-have-a-bad-habit" mentality. People come here for technical advice, not moral judgement. And for the record, my Leggy does NOT smell like ciggarettes (you see, now a days, they have these nifty little things called "windows" which you can open up to let the smoke out! Imagine that!). My point is this: If you're going to go around calling people stupid, why don't you target some gas guzzling SUV drivers or some Jonas Brothers fans or something instead of your fellow Legacy brethren?
