Changes - Legacy Central BBS

Post by Dave C »

It's time for a change.

This list format has run its course for a lot of us, so i've decided
to put up a true forum in an attempt to improve upon what
LegacyWorks has offered for the last two-plus years.

I know some of you really prefer to use the mail portion of Yahoo
Groups, so in that regard, this list is relevant, but to many
others, the formatting leaves much to be desired.

I won't even go into the ads and sluggishness of Yahoo's servers...

With that in mind, i invite you to come to bbs.legacycentral.org and
help make the transition to an improved version of LegacyWorks.
I've got some support from a number of the list's personalities to
help out, so i'm confident that this will work great.

Dave,

I do agree it's probably for the better due to the problems with yahoo.

Shoot me an email off list or I'll shoot you an email. I've got pretty much all the messages since the beginning of the group. Given time I can probably go about transfering the relative information to the new board, or we can create some sort of archival forums.

I'll shoot ya an email to discuss what would work best.

Great idea. I have been using outlook to manage the messages because the
yahoo interface just doesn’t cut it. If this was something similar to
Ultimate subaru message board or I-club it would be great.

I like the message board, but does this signal the end of the mailing
list? the message board has nice features, but i like the mailing list
as well..i hate to see it go..

That's a good question David.

I don't mind the emails from this list. I don't think the list will die.....but I think the traffic will probably die down substantually.

Guess it's something that needs to be looked into further.

I personally prefer this list over other formats. You
get to see every message pretty easily and if you
don't check your email for a while due to something
like vacation (I forget what that is these days.
They're just memories now), you have all the messages
and don't have to fish through much. I guess both
have benefits and advantages though. It is nice being
able to read email from friends and family and check
the mailing list all at the same time.
On a different note. I was cleaning and stripping
weight in my car the other day. I now have only a
driver seat, and have removed everything from the
trunk, liners, spare, everything, as well as the
entire back seat except for the bar that runs across
the hole to the trunk. Anyhow I've been wanting to do
a free flowing muffler so I decided to unbolt my
muffler from the centre pipe to see how it sounded. I
left the muffler on just no longer attached. The car
just rumbles. It reminds me of my old bosses old 1923
Ford V8 hot rod. It has that kind of deep rumble
sound. Tomorrow I'm going to bolt it back up because
it vibrates a shit load now but have pretty much
decided I am going to do a muffler. Anyhow.

I do think this board should stay around, at least for a while, but
as Josh mentioned, it will probably dwindle.

I agree that there are benefits and drawbacks with both, but the BBS
structure has a lot more going for it right now, so i'd like to
pursue it as much as possible.

The BBS has the ability to show you what posts you haven't replied
to, or have been posted in the last 2, 5, 10, etc days, so there are
features that let you catch up to what has been going on.

You should edit the auto added signature at the bottom of every message
to include a line that says "visit out online forum at
http://bbs.legacycentral.org"

Well, FWIW, you can goto http://bbs.legacycentral.org/search.php?
search_id=newposts to view the new posts since you last visited. That
way you can make sure you didnt miss anything.

Personally i hate all the garbage that comes with the mailings on the
yahoo list, like all the yahoo adds and "how to unsubscribe" crap. I
like the new board much better.

It works, except that the link doesn’t show up as a link but rather as
the html coding in plain text! But yeah that’s what I meant.
