power stop rotors

Post by turbo970 »

well in a couple weeks i'll be doing my brakes. i saw a online ad for power stop rotors. but they only show a difference between turbo and n/a. do the rotors differ between the sedan and wagon?

Rotors are the same between sedan and wagons, with some exceptions. Turbo cars had larger rotors in front and vented rotors in the rear. With the correct calipers I believe any rotors will fit with a little effort.

Also when looking for rotors look for ones that are cryo treated and zinc coated, I've had mine on for 200k and not warped or rusted.

I have those on mine, but next time just drilled NO slots. I'm getting a weird vibration from the slots, and if you think about it race cars only have drilled.

I wouldnt get drilled on a street car. They can develop stress cracks.

Interesting. I hear all kinds of mixed opinions. I just bought slotted stoptech rotors and stoptech pads for my 05 LGT brake swap and there's no vibration. Just excellent braking.

I have noticed a massive increase in brake dust. 300 miles and my wheels have a good coating of red dust on the fronts. I never even saw brake dust before with whatever off the shelf pads I had on the stock brakes.

I do not prefer drilled rotors

http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/brakes.html

The performance pads are going to dust more than off the shelf pads....the dusting is more a function of the pads not the rotors.

In terms of size rotors/brakes. The non-turbo sedans had smaller caliper pistons compared to the wagons. My brake math spreadsheet has all the variations/differences.

From Centric's website:

Premium Rotor, Sedan, Turbo, AWD, Front, 120.47012
Brake Discs, C-TEK Standard Rotor, Sedan, Turbo, AWD, Rear, 121.47013

Don't know what the C-TEK rotor is but it didn't list a regular rotor for the turbo sedan rear.

Amazon has them cryo-treated for only $3 more than the regular rotor. Part number 120.47012CRY for the fronts but I'm only seeing it for the fronts. This link is for the standard non-cryo centric front 91-94 SS rotors.

Here's the rear.

I believe any from a early RS 98 will work and even the 02-04 WRX. Stoptech and goodwrench sell them. You can get them off ebay for like 60-70 bucks are find used from nasioc.
