Re: Tony's 91 SS 20DEC UPDATE

Post by SILINC3R »

So little update. I got excited to start way back late Dec. and I haven't done anything since. Got bills to pay so been trying to focus on that. Have been wanting to put some parts on the Miata to get it out of stock mode but said to heck with that. If I am going to spend money it needs to be on this car getting it back up and running. By now I should know not to start a project when you don't have the funds or parts but I guess when you got the motivation you just have to go with it. And I have 2 other cars to drive so that helps.

List O Parts Needed:

Driveshaft-junkyard?
Pedal set-junkyard?
Clutch-Bought, WRX
Flywheel-Bought, Stock WRX
Engine mounts-Bought, stock WRX
Tranny Mounts-Bought GroupN
Lower ball joints-Moog/Whiteline, Bought
Outer Tie Rods-Moog/Whiteline, Bought
Whiteline Steering Rack Bushings, Bought
Pilot Bearing
New Power Steering Line-OEM

Ah... disposable income, how I miss you.
Nice parts pile, Tony. Now, mix all ingredients in appropriately sized container, add one SS, bake for 2 hours @ 70*, enjoy. Serves up to four.

So it appears I can't seem to stop spending money. Went to remove the engine mounts and replace with WRX mounts and notice they looked the same. So when we replaced the engine we may have already put the newer ones in. Crap so, went ahead and bought the group N which will complement the Group N tranny mount anyway. Also got the Kartboy Transmission Subframe Bushings and the lower control arm main bushing STi Group N ones

STi Group N lower control arm (Subarugenuineparts.com)-$95
RH - B0200FE000
LH - B0200FE010

Kartboy Transmission Subframe Bushings (fastwrx.com)-$30

STi Group N Engine Mount Set (fastwrx.com)-$150

Well, I am finally a proud owner of one of the few "David Carter Hood" that still exist and have survived the decade. I like to think of it as my "piece de resistance". It just goes to show if you have a passion and the strive you can do whatever you want to do. Yes there will be bitching, hard times and even uncertainty. David Carter, Lee of Northwind Composites, Rob of "Robtune", RevTronix, Devin of AMP Auto Tech, some are still here and some have gone. However, I commend and applaud all who have tried with everything they have/had to help our small, small group of enthusiast. The new kids on the block WRX/STi will never get the chance to appriciate when someone comes on the board with a great idea that gets everyone amped up. Wether or not it comes to fruition, it is awesome to see these people who you may never meet face to face but only by text try to do something seamingly impossible. They know there are no riches to be had and there is no knowing of how long they can keep it going.

So just remember to have a little faith and a little respect/understanding that they might not be able to produce something in a week. Rome wasn't built in a day and niether was your Subaru.

And without further ado

The part number comes up but doesn't say what year. it was from an 02-05 WRX. Has the nipple on it.

Well made a little progress. Got the old pedals out and the new ones in. Had to remove the dang dash to do it though. It was hitting the bulk wiring next to the HVAC box. Luckly I can take the dash out in about 30 mins. Got the clutch slave in. Also had to put some new switches in for the pedals as they where broke.

Went to bolt up the flywheel and noticed the bolts wouldn't work. Didn't think about the bolts being different between the two. Flywheel got a new pilot bearing though. Got a Exedy stock WRX street cluch also. Did't realize it cam with a new throwout and pilot bearings. Kind of pissed as I spent 150 bucks extra for nothing.

Trying to decide what shifter to put in. I bought one from Steven who built my motor long time ago and it's short. Also got a stock WRX shifter linkage with the tranny. They are both WRX but Steven's maybe to short haha.

I have about 2 weeks left to try and get it all back together.
