Anybody need a Gmail account?

Post by vrg3 »

I have three invitations for Gmail accounts that I can give out... anybody need one?

If more than three people want one I'll have to figure out a fair way to pick, but let's see...

How is it you have the invitations? Is it an limited time offer or something like that or do you work for Google?

I got the account a little while ago when a friend of mine who works at Google sent me an invitation.

And now, when I log in to my Gmail account, I'm told I can invite three more people to join. It's not clear what I did to deserve that privilege.

Right on, but it seems strange that it's set up that way. Ususally you can just sign up for free email accounts of your own discretion.

Yeah, I'd be interested in trying one out too. What could it hurt?

My understanding is that it will be completely free and open once they get beyond the beta stage. Right now since it's still in testing they have to limit the number of users, and this is their way of doing it.

The main advantage of getting an invitation right now is that it'll be less likely that someone else will have taken your desired username by the time the service is open to the public. I actually wanted to get the username "vikash" but it was already taken. But I got "vikashgoel" which is a heck of a lot nicer than "vikash48319" or something. :)

For me it's nice having a gigabyte of storage on an email account that I won't lose when I graduate. I've since found that Gmail has a lot of other really cool features that I like, although I'm still getting used to them.

You guys'll have dibs unless somehow a horde of people say they also want one today, in which case I'll ask you to guess what number I'm thinking of or something. I'll send the invites tomorrow.

Okay... that's three people. I feel like I should wait long enough so that enough people have had a chance to see this thread before I give them out though. Tomorrow morning. :)

I've got three people I can send it to as well. Actually, make that two (just sent my wife one). So if any of you need one, let me know.

I'd like one, but I don't really need it. I occasionally run out of room on my Comcast mail, but I barely send e-mail, so I'm alright.

If there's any invites still floating around, I'm interested too. Can't beat the amount of storage space.

Okay... so MK, Scott, Dave, IggDawg, Mike, Laurel, and Matt all want one... But Dave, you got one from Brian? Igg, you too, right?

Even then, that leaves five people and I only have three invitations.

MK, Scott, Mike, Laurel, and Matt... how 'bout you each try to guess the number between 0 and 63 that I'm thinking of? I've written it down on a piece of paper on my desk... I'll send invitations to the three closest guesses.

They gave me 4 more invites, one of which goes to my wife. The first three people to PM me an email address to send the invite to get the invites. If I get more, I'll post it up and invite some more people.
