WRX wheels 205/55/16 fit a 93 legacy sedan

Post by mp »

Greetings,

Can someone with firsthand experience please tell me if I can fit
WRX wheels and tires on my 93 legacy sedan.

The 205/55/16 would replace the stock 185/70/14 and are 8/10 or an inch taller. Tire Rack suggests using 205/50/16 tires. I live in Hawaii and never encounter slush or snow.

I intend on using the WRX wheels with Bridestone RE750 tires.

Has anyone used 215 or 225 sized wheels without further modifications?

Thanks,

mp

I'm running the wrx stock wheels and tires. I also have KYB-GR2 stuts, but I have no problems at all. On stock suspension you MIGHT rub a bit, but not much. I think you should be able to do it. A lot of guys here are running them. The 205/50/16 are closer to the stock overall tire size on the turbos, so those are even better when considering your speedometer accuracy. Even so, the wrx's don't push my speedometer off by that much.

I'm running stock everything but wrx rims and tires, and they fit, the back BARELY clears, but it does. I'll be happier with new tires that are the correct size

speaking of will it fit... ive been looking into wheels, and since i havent been schooled in wheel-putting-on, i'd appreciate it if anyone who knew could tell me if 205/40/17 would have any trouble fitting on a 92 sdn?

I have my eyes on a set of '03 WRX rims and tires like these...

Image

...for my '92 L Wagon.

The WRX 205/55R16 will replace stock 185/70R14.
Some people say it will rub, some say it won't so I guess I will have to experiment by myself.
In any case, I would like to know from the people who say it won't rub: have you tried on a sedan or wagon? Any difference when the car is loaded with cargo?
And from the people that say it will rub: does the rubbing disturb normal driving? What about aggressive driving? Does it make any serious damage to the car? To the tire?
Thanks in advance!

I'm running 16" Legacy GT rims with crappy Potenza RE92 205/55R16 tires, mine don't rub at all. Bone stock Legacy Turbo suspension.

Also, what about Turbo VS Non-turbo

Mine rubbed on my NA sedan in the back on stock suspension.
They cleared the fender well fine, but they were rubbing on the spring perch, so I hammered it out of the way slightly.
As long as the perch is out of the way, it should be fine in all driving conditions since the perch doesn't move with the suspension.

I don't have any rubbing with mine on my FWD Legacy L. They are a little taller than stock so speedo will be off by a small amount. Search for the miata tire size calculator and you can get a good idea of stuff. I know it's been posted in this forum more than once.
