my car doesn't work... :( so i haven't swapped for 205/55's yet. but from what i've read, they will fit. they're about 7/8ths of an inch shorter.

OK I am curious as to why you guys are having issues.

I am running WRX rims with the stock 205/55/16's on them with no issues.

So my questions to you:

Did you install the struts yourselves?
Were they from another subaru? What parts did you use from your original set -up?

When they were put in, were they "positioned" the right way?
( I ask this in that when I did my rears, they fit two ways. One way they cleared the wheel, the other they did not.)

what do you mean posisitioned? I may have this issue because i put 02 wrx struts/springs with legacy fwd tops and they hit bad.

Legacy FWD tops? If it's a FWD car the rear suspension is slightly different, so the WRX stuff probably wouldn't work right. As far as the struts themselves go, I thought the WRX struts will actually give more room between the tire and the perch. There's lost more room between my tires (205/55-16) and my STi perches than there was on stock struts.

I didnt do the struts myself, I actually just picked the car up.

So what did they put in? I have H&R springs and AGX's and I had no issues when they went in right.

Makes me wonder what they put in. You might end up taking it to a Subaru dealer and have them do a look-see.

We're going to need to know more about your setup to tell what the problem is.

I didn't have much room on stock struts. I could barely fit a finger between the tire and the perch on the inside:

There's plenty of room with the STi take-offs, though:

oh yea, and potenza's 205/22/15 on 02 wrx rims with a 53 offset

I didn't think AWD struts fit on FWD cars. Maybe that's part of the problem?

from my understanding, the fwd and awd struts are the same. it's the tops that are different.

The AWD rear struts most definitely DO NOT fit on FWD spindles.

The mount point on the FWD spindle is inline with the center of the wheel. On the AWD spindle, the mount point is offset from the center of the tire and raised slightly.

The struts are different. You can't mount AWD struts on a FWD spindle......I tried, it doesn't work. You'd have to bend or cut away a portion of the strut bottom.

but you really didnt.

if anythign their 205/55/15

22/15 wouldnt be a wrx wheel and 22 would be a rubberband

Legacy777 : Is it possible to grind away enough of the bottom to make this possible and still safe?

azn2nr yea...sorry, finger slipped 205/55515

They're 16" wheels, and no, I don't see how you could grind away anything. The flanges that attach the strut to the spindle are at different angles, so it should be pretty much impossible to install AWD struts on a FWD car and vice-versa.

I wouldn't recommend it. It'll probably allow things to fit. However I can't comment on whether the strut body is different or how the perch height changes between FWD & AWD.

well everything fit fine when i had the stock 14 inch rims on it... just now on the 16's they hit
