OMFG its snowing

Post by 93forestpearl »

Some of you guys may have had snow already, but this is the first real snow we've had here in the Twin Cities. Just burnt a 1/4 tank of gas enjoying it.

Couple things. The wagon definitely needs more provocation to get the rear to come around. The soft springs and added weight tranfer, along with the extra weight of being a wagon and the hitch on the back are big factors. Also, it needs about 100 more hp. Its hard to hang her loose on large radius sweepers without going way too fast.

That is all.

I'm just down south a bit and it was a heck of a time gettin to school today. All my "spirited" driving this summer has eaten away at my tire rubber so they are a bit bald  . FWD doesn't help either lol

What do you guys up there call "big snow"?

Ohio got about 4 inches a few weeks ago. That's decent for us....

We got two inches, which isn't exactly big. Its been dry so there's been no snow to play in.

I consider "big" snow a foot or more. We've had 24 inches in one night before.

Have you tried left foot braking? The rear should come around quite well, especially in slippery conditions.

^ Oh I do, and it works. I just never had to do that in snow with the other car. I should take that damn hitch off.

Big snow is when it's starts snowing and 3 days later when it stops, you have about 12 feet or more. My mom used to live in Tahoe and they can get some crazy storms up in the Sierras.....

I think this can be said of every car I've ever owned, lol

Yeah, big snows are 2-3' in 24hrs. Last "big snow" I went through ruined my Superbowl party, there was a driving ban in effect. Drank a shit-ton of gin and juice that evening. :)

We had a dusting, probably about an inch. We've literally had more salt than snow so far this year.

Being that you don't see much snow, did you go enjoy it?

Dan do you have a LSD in the back? Once I got mine in a few years ago getting the wagon to step out on sweepers, any corner really, is just a matter of a jab to the gas.

We got our first snow last night and also burned some gas until about midnight. Each 4 way I came to a stop at (that didn't have any other cars around) I would crank the wheel, pop the clutch, spin a cookie and continue on my way. :)

^ No I do not, and I need one real bad. The thing is, its hard to justify spending time and money on the beater when I still need to get a shell for my sedan's guts. That will also entail much more denero in the swap process as I need to change a bunch of stuff. Also, the wagon still needs two more wheel bearings, which are a pain in the ass and I'm dragging my feet as long as possible.

But yes, I do need an lsd for it. I could even scrounge up a 4.111 ring and pinion for dirt if I needed to.

Also, I am really missing the helical front diff of the 6mt. It really helped turn the car under power...

Not really. I was stuck on a plane. I was flying back from NC. Flight was delayed 2 hours, and then we sat at the gate waiting for one to become available once we got in Houston.

It was snowing on my drive home, however the roads were just wet. The bridges had started getting some accumulation of slush. At that point all I wanted to do was get home.

I do miss playing around in the snow.....I enjoyed doing that when I lived up north.
