Jeff M's 1994 turbo legacy

Post by jdmellor28 »

Ok where to start ..

I first got a taste of the turbo legacy when my dad bought a 1991 turbo auto that had a bad trans. So we did a trans swap keeping it auto ( for the time being ) . When it was up and running i got to drive it around a bunch , because i did most of the work ! hahaha ... But i wanted one for myself and i wanted 5 speed . I found my car on craigslist.com and didnt have to drive far to get it buying it from a guy on here called " snowboarded " for $1,400.

there was a legacycentral in the window of the legacy so i asked him about it , he told me about this site and i have been on here ever since.

im happy to have my subaru in my life its a great car and my family and i have and have owned about 6 subarus since my dad first got his 91 turbo a few years ago.

Dad- 1991 turbo legacy
Brother- 1998 forester
Mom- 2000 forester
Me- 1994 turbo legacy  , 2003 WRX sport wagon  , 1998 forester

so thats most of my story. i have a ton of photos from day one to now and i take new photos every time i do something with the legacy.

I will post what i can and the rest will be available to see on my photo bucket ! along with the photos of my dads 1991 turbo legacy trans swap !

http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q140 ... 28/legacy/

when i bought the car it had
- wrx wheels and tires
- wrx suspention with whiteline lowering springs
- wrx front brakes
- wrx 3 inch turbo back exhaust
- boost gadge
- beat up hood and wrx scoop
- wrx coolent tank but it was not mounted up
- aftermarket steering wheel
- perrin light crank pully

I drove this turbo legacy in the winter and shortly after i sold it to my friend so i could buy a 2003 wrx .

Image

i bought the wrx wrecked in the front , did a rebuild on it , drove it for a few months , had trans problems , fixed the problems and sold the wrx !
needing a car to drive a bought a 1998 forester auto to drive back and forth . but it was way to LAME .

Image

sold it after only 4 months to buy my 1994 legacy turbo back !
my friend had drove the turbo legacy for a while untill something went wrong and he parked it. He was not very good at working on things and i had enough projects of my own at the time so the car just sat in his back yard untill i bought it back from him.

Image

when i got the legacy trailered back to my house i went right for the timing belt. this is what i found ...
Image

some of the teath had stripped off of the belt !
suspecting the timing belt before i even took it apart i had ordered a new belt kit .

Image

Image

I want to point out how important it is to get the right timing mark lined up on the crank !!!!
i had it wrong the first time and had to take it all apart and fix it !

Image

after i got the car running agan i set my sights on speed and cleaning up the looks of the legacy .

first i fixed the wrx coolent tank up by making a mount for it !

Image

Image

i just used angle metal i got at the hardware store. and some bolts i had laying around. I did have to go to the auto parts store and buy lots of heater hose line in a few diffrent sizes to connect the tank in its new location.

next on the list was the leaking fuel filler neck !
i ordered a NEW one from subarupartswarehouse.com

Image

Image

Image

It was very nice and a great fit ! it went in very easy and you only have to remove the rear wheel to get to it ! no need to drop tank or anything to hard. - also i sprayed the new fuel filler with under coating so it would fight off the rust a bit better !

Also on the list was a wrx top mount and bov .
With that came a new hood. the hood was for a non turbo so i had to make with the choppie choppie and a new wrx scoop .
Image
Image
Image
the scoop got rivits in it to hold it tight to the hood .
the wrx scoop that was on the car when i bought it was held on by bondo ... bondo + fast = it flew off on the highway !

here is the wrx topmount and bov
Image

Image

Image

all installed and looking much better
Image

i painted the wing black because it was all chipped up
Image

got an oil pressure gadge to fill the empty spot in my pod . it is not hooked up yet .. it got cold here and i ran out of motivation .
Image

my clutch was feeling week so i looked in to it and found out that the legacys have stupid blocks in between the clutch master cyl and slave syl . just like the nissan 240sx i had . So i went in and took the block out and just ran the one rubber line from the master cyl straight to the slave cyl .

photo is kinda dark so here it is with some coloring on it !
Image

Here in Ohio February 2010 we got beat down with snow !
and i LOVE every min of it !
Image

Image

Image

Image

I have been driving around and have not gotten stuck at all yet !
at one time in the photo above i was in up to my doors !

Found some 17in wheels for when the snow stops on craigslist for $200 with tires !

Image

Image

I might have more pics and info around here somewhere ?
Im gona try to keep up on this !
Right now its cold and we have like 2 feet of snow ! so im not working on the car much but i have some big plans for when it gets warm enough to work on it .
feel free to ask questions ! i have done a lot of work on cars and subaurs and i spend way to much time looking up stuff online when i should be doing my school work ...

here is a cool photo that is my new motivation for my legacy.
i think this car is in scubiesport ?
Image

Got my wheels on today ! It was like 60 outside ! And i had the day off !
Image

Image

Image

the tires could be taller .. but i like them so far !

Hey man I think I bought your 94 legacy off of a guy in new phili Ohio. And I'm pretty sure it was yours. But I got some questions. Did you ever have any problems with the electrical system? I got a bunch more questions. Hope you can help me out!

Nice find mate. Same model year & color as mine. I reckon its a good candidate for a Maaco spray. Still got the aegean blue MY94 SS?

Winestone is a good color too! AT or manual?
