A VF11 makes 160hp on a 2.2L motor.
A TD04 is a little bit bigger (and dirt cheap since the WRX guys tend to dump them for something bigger) and makes 224hp on a 2.0L

Both can be pushed well above their stock rated output, but I doubt you'll get much above 200chp with the tiny vf11.

Well the 0.2 displacement advantage of the EJ22T basically eradicates the lag you experienced on the EJ205 with the td04.

You're never going to get 220WHP with a vf11, not even close. That's what a stock STI dynos.

My plan is to get the most I can out of the vf11. I too like the spool and would just like a little more on the top. I am pretty sure I have seen that the vf11 is rated at somewhere around 250 lbs/min. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't that mean it should be good for around that same horsepower.

My plan is to port the housings and maybe extrudehone after that. I would also like to ceramic coat the hotside. I'm not looking for lots of horsepower, I just want to optimize what is there.

I'd suggest doing some further research about those turbos, both here and on nasioc.

Stock WHP for a vf11 is around 130. How far can you push that little thing? 145-150whp?
Florin1 made 171whp with a TD04 (stock ecu, had issues with his setup leading to lower than optimal numbers) (http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=44014)
Macipusy got 240whp with a VF39 (http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=42296)
Jake15 got 247whp with a TD05-16g (On the stock ECU!!) (http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... 37&start=0)

With tuning of course you'll see better numbers than Florin and Jake. Note these are their old setups.

Of course there's more lag with larger turbos.

Power is great. but what would be the best spool time as a upgrade over the VF11. TD04?

Personally....I think you're getting way too caught up on spool time. With a properly setup TD05, lag is not bad at all. Plus the power is substantially greater than the vf11, which in my mind makes up for what little bit of lag increase there may be.

This has at least been my experience when going from the vf11 to the TD05.

old set up with a ej22t, invidia up pipe. stock pink injectors, fcd, td04, 02 tmic, 3 inch exhaust turbo back, boost set to 15psi made 187 awhp with an exhaust gasket leak before the up pipe. lag time was more with the 02 tmic 06 tmic was less lag time. Also live at a mile high altitude.

Td04 turbos spool a little bit faster than the vf11, vf11 is maxed at 14psi?? td04 maxed at 16psi anything higher goes against its efficiency. td04 is a better turbo, and you can put on a tmic on easier.

Recently I found a Jdm connection, what about some of the Jdm turbos over the tdo4. Right now he has a vf24 I can get a deal on

I read that turbo spools quickly and has good power down low. Not rebuildable I hear, but a huge upgrade over the vf11.

Correct, not rebuildable. If your trying to hit 220-230whp your also going to need supporting mods. Vf39 should get you there with supporting mods. Why so much the concern for lag/spool? Your cars manual correct?
