Looking for a good computer back-up program

Post by stipro »

As the title says, I am looking for a backup program so I can backup all of my photos to an external HD. Just wondering if anyone on here has had any good experiences with a particular product. I trust your opinion over those on the web trying to sell there products.

You don't need any sort of "backup program".Just get a quality EHD and put your files on it, its that easy.Myself I use Maxtor brand hard drives and have been happy, but there are many.Remember it doesn't matter how well you electronically store data, it is still wise to have anything important redundantly backed up on permanent storage such as discs.

In addition to what gijonas said,

Most external HDDs come with some sort of [crappy] backup software. Have you tried the backup software which already comes with windows? Microsoft SyncToy? Wrote a simple batch script using xcopy?

Yeah, I just use a batch file with xcopy and schedule it to run nightly via Scheduled Tasks in the control panel

A true backup has to be off-site. An external hard drive is great, but if your house burns down and both copies are in there...

I like www.carbonite.com . $55/year for unlimited data

94 SS with things and such
08 STI with stuff and junk
