Yes, the newer subaru 2-pin alternators will work on your 92 Legacy. You will need to get the new plug and splice it into the appropriate wires on the stock alternator harness.

I'm curious as to why this is? I don't see how they're related but am eager to find out.

with the delta cams the idle is rough and the rpms are not stable so the stock alternator has a hard time keeping the lights from flickering.

Ah! I like it, makes sense, thanks for the explanation man.

But newer alts are easy to install on these, I'm running one on my Brat just fine.

Hi. I want to do the same thing.my alternator has the the round plug with 4 wires Hitachi. I think the 4th one which is green with black stripe (D)goes to the ECU for some kind of Ecu control..I am not sure .I can not find a wiring diagram for this JDM ECU G2 226611AA950. The most early legacys 1990-4 came with 3 wires round alternator plug.!!!That's why I aske if it is possible to make the upgrade ?

So are you saying that you have four wires in the wiring harness going to the alternator? If so, that's the first time I've seen that and am not sure what it would do to the ECU and if you would be able to upgrade.
