No Power Steering

So, one problem solved, and another comes to light.

Finally got my issues with my ATF cooler all straightened out, and my g/f comes home after taking the dog to the park and goes "The car has no power steering." Ugh, so get back under the car, and it looks like a couple of the inlet and outlet hard lines of the steering rack are weeping. That's a pretty easy fix, I already replaced the large ones last year, the small ones can be reached without removing anything.

But, I'm thinking about this, would this cause a NO power steering problem? There is still fluid in the reservoir, it's not a massive leak by any means. I remember last year my other lines had sprung a leak and I never had an issue with the power steering going out. Unless these small lines have a significant amount of pressure in them. Anyone have an experience here?

If the fluid is somewhat full, I would say the pump decided to take a crap.

Well, if thats the problem, I can crack it open and grab some new o-rings. There is a significant amount of fluid dripping out, but perhaps its just spraying everywhere. Just odd the P.S. stopped working and the lines underneath started leaking at the same time.

If the lines are an easy, I'd just fix that first. I don't know how the lines are set up offhand, but what appears to be a very small leak can erupt like a geyser under pressure and then go back to almost not leaking again once pressure stops.

I would suggest checking the lines while your gf tries to turn the wheel to see if the leaks start spraying. If they do, fix the leaks. Otherwise if they don't start spraying, then your problem is something else. The leaks might be a symptom caused by overpressurization of the system which could be caused by a blockage in the lines. That's just a wild ass guess, but you'll have to dig into things some more to see what the problem is.

It was definitely the lines leaking. After I replaced the lines, filled the system back up, everything was fine. I thought there was fluid in the system, but I opened up the lines and nothing came out. At least it was a simple fix.

Glad to hear it was an easy fix.
