is there a difference between the rear axles on a turbo legacy vs non turbo legacy?

91 turbo has different axles because of the locking diff. I believe all others are the same from 89-94.

On a 1st gen, if there is any difference (which I don't know the answer to), they are completely interchangeable. I've always grabbed junkyard NA 1st gen axles.

Rallyak: The 91-only VLSD has different axle stubs (they are un-equal length) from any other 1st gen, but the same axles bolt to it.

I knew 91 was special in the VLSD I though it was the axles, didn’t think about the stubs.

If you ever find a 1991 vlsd without axle stubs, it is completely open and those stubs are unobtanium at this point.

Theory: The JDM unequal length rear axles may work in a 1991 VLSD that is missing stubs. But those would be very difficult to find here as well. And you might as well run a JDM plated LSD diff by that point.

so your saying that on my 91 ss with vlsd the na axles will bolt on just fine?

Any 1st gen rear axles will work. As long as your 1991 SS VLSD diff still has it's original stubs.
