Hey guys, I hope you can help me with my issue, last month I bought a Subaru legacy 1994 station wagon, it was perfect until I took it for a trip here in Bogota, Colombia. I notice the transmission is engaged in 4WD all the time even without connecting the fuse, the transmission is starting to make noises and kicking, someone here in Bogota told me the problem was the differential but I am not sure, I think is the transmission because what I told you before about the fuse, here in Bogota when mechanics do not know about something like this what they do is put it in direct 4WD, they try to avoid the electric system that controls the 4WD, any help will be appreciated or maybe a youtube tutorial how to fix it.
by the way, this is an automatic transmission.

Welcome to the BBS.

I'm assuming it's an automatic transmission? If so, the fuse holder in the engine bay disables the AWD system. My suggestion would be to put a fuse in the fuse holder and see if the binding you are experiencing goes away. If it does, you can try draining and replacing the automatic transmission fluid and see if that helps If not, it could be the clutch plates in the rear transfer housing.

thanks, Legacy777 for making me feel welcomed. What I did, for now, was remove the driveshaft, so I have traction only in the front wheels as I said, the 4WD is engaged with or without the fuse. I assume sooner or later I am going to have to repair the transmission. that is why I am kindly asking you if you know any video tutorial on youtube to fix it by myself because I do not trust in mechanicals here in Bogota.

I don't particularly know of any videos, but others may know. You can try searching for 4eat rear clutch pack repair replacement.

Here are a couple Facebook groups you can try posting in as they are more active then the BBS.
