Ok this is a start. Anyone know where I could get a keyless system? Are they still available through Subaru?

Thanks again

Well, the neat thing about setting up keyless entry is that (for most of us) three of our four doors already have all the mechanical parts you need. I was planning on trying to do something like this, so I just bought one of those "universal" power door lock kits that basically consists of a lever arm and a solenoid. I haven't gotten around to trying to install it in my driver's door yet.

It shouldn't be too hard to install an aftermarket keyless entry system.

Oh, that brings up a point that I never thought of before. There is no door lock motor in the drivers door..... hum..... If Subaru did sell a keyless entry syestem there must be Legacys out there with lock motors in the drivers door. Vrg3, let me know how your install goes. Where did u get your universal lock?

The same place I get most of my random electrical/electronic stuff, from a surplus house.

I have also been meaning to try adapting the actuator from another door in the car to fit the driver's door, which may be easier.

Uh I think my legacy has electric motors

I'm sure this has been mentioned before but the there are actually only motors in 3 doors and the drivers door only has a switch built in. You have to physically move the drivers door lock to activate this switch. There is no way around it, you have to add an actuator to the drivers door.
