Unfortunatley it dosent cover "common problems" or how this needs to go click into here and this pump seal needs to be perfect etc etc

The knocking/ticking sound was two of the boltheads that connect the driveplate to the TC hitting something in there. The ends were filed smooth!! This still doesnt explain why I have no gears....... unless the TC has ...

Well I didnt touch the trans so none.

I just went and checked the trans fluid and was quite high when cold so I drained a bit out (3 ltrs). Still reads resonably high.

I can see the TC moving when motor is cranked so must be behind that the input shaft?

If I didnt get the driveplate and torque converter in the same position as the ol motor, would this matter>?

No, just removed the four bolts holding the flexplate (?) to it.
Did of course lift the trans up and down to manouver the engine in.
The TC didnt appear to move at all.

I've dropped in a replacement engine and finally got it running.

I have no gears now!! (auto) and I hear a ticking/knocking sound. (Speeds up with revs)

What have I messed up here?? I did a search and found a similar post http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=18045 but he replaced his trans ...

Gah got them off , removed both axles. Thank god i got the wheel hub nut of easily. Ive heard they can seize on pretty bad.

Gonna replace the CV boots now the axles are off. makes sense to me as the rubber looks old.

What is a wabbol joint socket ? Is that slang ? I mean I am on the otherside of the world .... but is that a brand?

I'll assume your meaning a universal socket joiner?
Tryed that one just cant get enough power to the socket.

Im pulling my engine.

Can anyone tell me, do I have to remove the front axles to get at the lower bellhouse bolts? (trans-eng) Just cant get at them to get enough drive on.

haynes manual says just undo them.

yeah mine is a 1990 GT legacy, and Im in new zealand (jap import prob) im not sure if its standard. I'll have to get the part number off it and see. The haynes manual says it is a pressure sensor for idle purposes but not where it goes or is connected. Its just my idle is strange fine untill I put ...

Ive found a connector that wasn't connected, I think its the power steering sensor which comes out the back of the powersteering reservoir, but I cant find another connector that its meant to go to, I presume it ends up at the ECM can anyone advise?

Well I pulled the resonator out and it dribbled out the small pipe hole. So not HEAPS but a resonable amount to be worried.

When I originally pulled the vent pipes (at the T connector where the valve cover vents meet) it was just a thin coat of greyish oil.

Yes I've read massive amounts of posts regarding the oil debate, so its hard to decide other than by trial and error.

The valve clatter is constant, from one valve (thats not a gunked up hydro lifter is it?)

I think I'll do a flush and put dino oil in it.

I know it needs 4.5 ltrs (I have Haynes manual) but i wanted to check as i went.

Interestingly subyluvr2212 i'm using Synth oil and got about 115K on the clock.

Problem is I allready have a relativley loud valve clatter, so diagnosing it that way is hard.

I put 3.5 Ltrs of Oil in after doing an oil change and none is showing on the dipstick after I've warmed it to running temp.

I pulled off the hose which connects to the air intake from the valve covers and there was a liitle bit of creamy oil inside the pipe.

ok pulled the plugs, and I could smell fuel on them so its not a fuel problem...replaced them all..... recieving spark......
so i decided to remove the air filter and air box....
Now Im no expert (by a long shot) but It had oil all through it from air flow sensor, to turbo charger. Cleaned it all ...

yeh sorry wrong terminology,coil on plug it is.....
yep fuel in the tank. I will check the injectors, and pull out all the plugs next. The fuel filter is fully sealed however, all i can do is replace it i guess?
Suppose i could disconnect it and blow compressed air through it?
would this be bad ...
