Re: RobTune: knock light flickering
The 550 tune is supposed to not fuel cut unless you specifically ask for a custom one. I've felt what I thought was fuel cut after my tune. However, after I while I notice it was always when I was under hard accel in a right turn, even wide sweepers that don't pitch the car hard could do it. After s...

The Touring Wagons, which are he heaviest, are 200lbs lighter. Non turbo sedans are more like 500lb lighter, give or take.

Got my sunroof last week. Looks good, and weighs almost nothing. The box survived traveling across the world without any serious bangs or craziness too. Can't wait for the hood! (Even though I won't be able to use either for a couple of years :-/)

Wow, what a beautiful wagon. I'm in Japan and I don't even see the 2nd this clean very often. Very nice work on the new engine.

I've only ever seen aftermarket front fenders for Subaru's. Any chance said company makes those rear quarters for our first gen Legacy's?

Where those rear fenders new from Subaru? I thought you had to get the entire qyarter panel.
Looks amazing. Your attention to the small details is just incredible.

This is cool, but it's no doubt gonna be EXPENSIVE for quite a long time. Certainly worth it for the motorsports crowd though.

I think you should start with the front diff, and pray real hard. Probably drain the fluid and see if there's bits of gear that come out.

They had them in stock when I ordered mine around April-ish. I don't have the part number handy though.
Re: Damn PCV!
The IACV hose is what I use there too. Its definitely one hundred billion times better than the stock pipe whether you're stock or not.

Are all 4 axle stubs fully engaged into the diffs? All 4 roll pins back in the axles to keep them from pushing themselves off the stubs? None of the splines on the axles or stubs sheared? If its not axle related I can't really see how you would have damaged the trans or diffs by doing struts.

Ah OK. I can see how that can cause issues, with the valve covers being insulated by the gaskets and grommets on the valve cover bolts.

Wait, did you have it grounded to the valve cover itself and not the mounting bolts for the coil packs?

Re: How-To: Convert To GD WRX Coil On Plug w/EJ20G ECU
Rob recommends grounding them to the bolt that holds the coils in the cylinder head in his write-up, which is how I did it. The OEM WRX harness does have them grounded to the common point in the engine's wiring harness if I recall correctly. But when installed properly there's 0 ohms between those m...

Re: Bad Gas Mileage?
That valve is a big gotcha, hardly anyone knows it's there. I found out about it chasing down the reason for persistent boost leaks when I got my 550 tune running. But at the time I replaced it, too much had changed to be able to tell if it affected fuel economy.

Re: Bad Gas Mileage?
I just re-read and saw you're getting 12-13mpg. That does seem pretty low even for winter. Plugs look good? MAF dirty? No low tire pressure? O2 sensor working?

Re: Bad Gas Mileage?
I remember my gas mileage dropping in the winter, but I think 16 was the lower I ever saw (18 was normal). A lot of things factor in: crappy winter mix, extended idling, more obtuse traffic patterns, drag from snow on the road, etc. If all your regular maintenance items and tire pressure look good, ...

I've seen the transmissions go for nearly 1/3 the price of a 6spd, though it does seem the importers and JDM vendors think anything anything with a DCCD knob is worth its weight in unobtanium.

For any performance application, I agree. They are very slow to react, and even in good working condition are unable to control wheelspin very much past their designed power capacity. I plan on trying to find a clutch type for my Legacy. I also plan on getting a 5MT DCCD trans for the Legacy to do a...

From my understanding, you want a BOV/BPV adjusted as light as possible while still staying closed while you're on the throttle. Lighter spring(s) may be in order.

Fits are pretty nice. If I wanted something smaller than what Subaru offers, they would be near the top of my list.
I did think they had rear disks though.
