Intercoolers have a speed rating?

The JAP import cars were limited to 112mph in Japan so intercoolers etc were only designed to work up to that speed....that is why they got such a bad name with blown bottom ...

By Phase 1 I mean the first generation. The cutoff is somewhere in '96, IIRC. Or '97, I can't remember.


Trans-Go has a reprogramming kit for the valve body on Turbo Legacy transmissions(JATCO). It is done as part of a full rebuild though, and not for a do-it-yourselfer.

Phase 1 autos can be modified for any amount of power you ever want to make.


That said, a manual is easier for the average do-it-yourselfer. They are plug and chug.

When you say Phase 1 do you mean the GT-B 1997 Jap-Import Auto Transmission..? I prefer Auto and ...

I would appreciate some advice on my Auto Transmission.

I am upgrading my GT-B 1997 Wagon ( Jap Import) and I am concerned the standard 280BHP box will not handle 400 Plus is I decide to go there.

What do I need to do with my existing box... hmmmmm !

I believe it is around 3500. Long story but he had to pay for the engine build 2x. We assembled the top end and intake.

I understand what its cost you in time alone not to mention asshole engineering workshops. :(

I may need to up-rate my Auto box for 400BHP plus...! do you know what I need to ...

I have been following your thread with considerable "pain". Wow you have indeed been through all the pain with that project.

I am in Ireland and I have just started a project on a GT-B Twin Turbo Wagon (JAP). It did in a bottom end which is to be expected on this engine at 60k, most likely previous ...

Just bought this 1997 GT-T Bilstein Legacy.

Blown bottom end but as its a project car the engine is coming out and a 400BHP plant is being fitted. Will keep some updates on this project as it gets interesting.

Looked at a 1999 non-turbo Legacy tonight and i am half tempted to buy it.

Silver / Leather / Air-Con / Twin Roofs / 17" Alloy's / Towbar

Mileage is 107K and its driving pretty good. May need timing belt done, but that is about it apart from a few scratches around the body.

Can buy for $2200 ...

I was offered a 1995 B4 Jap import with 130k suppose to be fully loaded. Gonna have a look at it tomorrow. What sort of machine is this..? is it a bag of trouble and what should I be looking out for on test runs.

Looks kinda nice, dark green and tidy.

I am thinking about adding this GT to my family..Clean one owner with about 120,000 miles...price is about $5700 before I haggle.

I am just throwing this one out to get some feedback.

I am thinking about upgrading to a Legacy Wagon 2.0 twin turbo GT..

You can pretty much use any subaru alternator.

The older style 3-plug alternators have a 12v turn on lead that tells the alternator it's ok to make voltage "turn on".

The newer style 2-plug alternators turn on above a certain rpm.

The other two leads are sense & light connections.

I dunno man that looks like someones really hacky B.S. work to me.

I agree its rough looking work..only discovered this when I started poking about under the wiring sleeving. I will of course re-do all the connections with proper sleeving and joining.

Looking for a replacement alternator for it ...

These are the connections on my alternator. Are these common in the USA as the Euro Legacy seems to have a different connector block push in rather then the push on spade connectors I have here.

Need to get a replacement unit..any ...

Hey thanks Morgan...I have done some testing tonight on the car and its all pointing to the Alternator. I will put a photo up later that shows the connection block...three push on spade connectors, looks like two are for warning light and the other is the positive feed wire to the unit itself.
