Windows Media Player

Post by BAC5.2 »

Just put a few MP3's onto my laptop, and I'm trying to get WMP to play them.

It says I'm missing a codec. It doesn't tell me which one, or where to get it.

Any ideas? No error code or anything identifying it.

I think it's WMP V.8.

Just use Winamp.

Actually, are you sure these are real MP3s? You can email me one if you want me to check.

Hm. That file does appear to be a standard MP3. All I can think of is that you might try upgrading to a newer version of Windows Media Player... It looks like they're actually up to version 10 now.

I don't know anything about whether 10 is better or worse than 8. But I would imagine that upgrading the player would also reinstall the codecs.

I don't know Windows.

yeah, you can try mpc, or download defilerpak. It's a pretty good group of codecs that will allow you to play pretty much any form of media. Here it is

media player 10 is a big step up from 9 series, but you need to have XP to run it :(

I'm still stuck with 98SE on this computer. Our good one has XP media center edition though :)

I have XP on the laptop and the desktop.

I just ended up using Winamp. It works just fine. I only copied 400 songs over to the laptop, so it's not to difficult to navigate with Winamp yet.
