Can a ej20 run with a ej22t ecu with mods?
Is it possible to get an ej20 to run with an ej22t ecu and harness if either the ecu was modified or if the ej20 was modifed to mate with the ej22t ecu? switching sensors, etc? I have seen a JDM ej20 without the harness and ecu, are these moyors helplees without the stock ecu (or a standalone)

Several people have run an EJ20G using an EJ22T ECU and engine management. It pretty much just works; the only real challenge would be mounting the coil pack and selecting plug wires (since the EJ20G used coil-on-plug from the factory).

Cool, so there is hope. Is there a timeing problem with the cam sensor?vrg3 wrote:Several people have run an EJ20G using an EJ22T ECU and engine management. As long as you're talking about one of the earlier EJ20s (as in an EJ20G, not an EJ205), the camshaft position sensor functions identically to ours.
Realize, of course, that fueling and sparking won't be ideal due to the differences between the two engines. And you'll be subject to the limitations of the EJ22T's engine management. It'll still work though.
Use the EJ22T MAF sensor and, if possible, the EJ22T injectors.
I don't know if it'd be better to use the EJ20 or EJ22 knock sensor, or if they're even different.
The EJ20 IAC valve should be fine but you may have to extend the wires on the harness (or just pull them out of the loom) to reach it.
EJ20 cam and crank angle sensors should be fine, unless they connect differently to the harness, in which case you'll want to use EJ22 sensors.
The EJ22T boost control solenoid, pressure sensor, and pressure exchange solenoid should work.
I'm pretty sure the temperature sensors, oxygen sensors, and throttle position sensors are the same for both engines.
If the EJ20 didn't have a purge control solenoid, just swap the EJ22 one over. I don't know if the stock mounting point would exist but you could just mount it any ol' place, making it easier to service in the future.

Well, what car did the JDM EJ20 come out of?
EJ20 ECUs were all of the same construction for a long time, and mostly interchangeable, but the programming was different for different things. Cars with AWICs had a pin controlling the intercooler pump, while cars without them often used that pin as another radiator fan control. And naturally, the mapping was different for cars that came with different turbos or had different power levels.

I don't know what car the motor came out of, the guy bought it on eBay from JHOT. He couldn't get it to run right and was selling the car. I didn't want to buy it without a plan to fix it, in the mean time he pulled the motor and sold it to a friend who wanted it for his car. I don't know if I missed out on something good or if I was better off without it. I think Im gonna just stick with the EJ22T's. My life is complated enough already.
