Air-to-air combat anyone?
Who else wants to go here this summer?

Freakin' sweet!
...and way more reasonable than this, although not quite as cool:

...wow.
I'm serious about the AZ dogfighting trip though...

That's awesome! I never got my pilot's license, though ... Damn, that's like a high performance driving class in cost!
I still need to take an anti-terror driving course for high end security personnel. They won't teach you the shit they show the FBI, though, dammit.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Exorctly. I was actually advised by the head of UCF's computer engineering department that when I graduated, I should join the air force. They need engineers.206er wrote:why not just join the air force?
yes, I know they dont let just anyone fly
I seriously doubt they'd let me fly anything, and that's one hell of a commitment.
Cheesy Top Gun references aside, this air combat school looks like it would make for one hell of a weekend vacation...
I took a flying lesson when I was 14 in a Cessna 172... it was bad-ass. I really wanted to continue but my parents weren't willing to pay anything but the "first lesson for $25" deal

I do believe the flight time here counts towards a license...

When I was 10, I flew my first plane. I've done it since then probably half a dozen times. I probably still remember how to fly those crazy little Cessna's.
I may get my pilots license when I'm out of college.
By that time, I'll be officially licensed to drive anything with wheels, or wings, or... boats.

Nice. I could probably fly a Cessna again if I had to.
I know just straight flying lessons would be more practical, and I do plan to resume those at the local airport (there's one a few miles from my land). But this air combat school looks like something I will definately want to try, probably more than once.

No recent flightsims for me, but I love the classics; Stunt Island, Wing Commander, Privateer... I know the last two are set in space but they make for some great dogfighting...

Yeah, the EJ22t can be used as a reliable aircraft engine with just forged pistons IIRC... gotta love Subaru overengineering!
The Extra 300L at the combat school has roughly twice the power of a stock Legacy... Cessnas are for license practice.
Did anyone else notice that on the Fly a MiG site, they have accurate paper models of the Foxbat and the Fulcrum you can print out? Freakin' sweet. They look like they'd hurt if you threw 'em at someone, too!

So damn many things I'd do if I had an extra few grand in my pocket. The Mig would be cool, especially out of the reach of the FAA(which is also kinda scary). And though an Extra300 is not a military fighter, you would be very suprised how manuverable they are. It's not just speed and G's. I found out recently I was selected as an "alternate" for a pilot position with the ND Air Guard, so hopefully I'll get to do that for real someday. As for simulators, go buy Falcon 4.0 Allied Force. It's like 25.00 and a damn accurate F-16C simulator. I've had the chance to "fly" a real 16 Sim and 4.0 is better in some ways.

Awesome - thanks for the recommendation, I'll go pick me up some Falcon 4.0, my interest is piqued.
Yeah the MiG adventure does have it's inherent risks being in Moscow and all.
The videos of the Extra 300L in action on that website (especially see the "Ratchet Roll" video) have led me to believe the same thing; it looks like a hell of a fun plane to pretend to dogfight in (or to perform airshow stunts in, another thing I want to do there!)
I'm gonna try and get like $2000 together and get one of their summer packages so I can fly the air show stunts one day and then fly some air combat the next, make a weekend vacation out of it.
If anyone else from this board wants to join me I'm down, my schedule is very flexible and I don't mind waiting a bit. I'm trying to get two of my good friends to go too, get a big group together. They've got flights from like $450 or so, but I think the very cheapest just lets you sit in the passenger seat and let the flight instructor perform a bunch of stunts... but that'd still be pretty cool. I want to fly, though.
