hesitation going into gear

hey, my 91 AWD L has some problems with the automatic. It pauses about 30 seconds before it goes into gear. Sometimes it does nothing when you put it in drive. You have to give it gas smooth or it flys in. Bang! Are there any adjustments? Could this be a electronic control problem? My manual says if the POWER light on the dash flashes 8 seconds, that this could be a control problem. Is this true. help

Two words:

Trasmission fluid.

Check to make sure you have enough. (Sounds like you don't) And if I'm not mistaken, you should check the transmission fluid level with the car is running.

And if you haven't had it changed in the last few years, now would be the perfect time to service it. As for the reason you're low. . . I'd get under the car ASAP and start checking the drop pan on the transmission for a leaky gasket.

that was the first thing I checked. The fluid is clean and up to the proper level. Anybody else have any suggestions.

does the power light blink at startup? or stay on while you drive?

if so, you have a code stored, and can pull them yourself. Instructions on my site.

It blinks 8 to 10 times at startup.
