I need bodywork/rust repair tips

Post by greg donovan »

i have been inspired by LegacyT's beautifull aspen white SS threads and i am in the planning stages of "restoring" my 94 ss. it is rusted in the typical places.

the rear corners of the rocker panels are pretty much gone and the dogleg under the trim piece is pretty rusty as well as the quarter panel where it meets the bumper at the back of the rear wheel arch.

should i try to form new rocker panel pieces or cut off some from a junkyard car?

any tips?

i am really torn on welding versus adhesive and screws.

we will also paint the car ourselves. the top contenders are:

White-Aspen White or Championship White
Orange-something similar to the orange lotus uses on the exige but not pearlized.
Green-havent found a good one yet but looking for something similar to the green in a 7Up bottle.
WRB.
Yellow-somethng like the S2000 or the aston martin vantage but again, not pearlized.

99% sure i will go with the non pearlized white. but it depends on the day. and how many times i look at pictures of the Exige and Matt Johnson's Orange PGT WRX.

the main criteria is that the color looks good with the gold 98 RS wheels i have.

i have found a rust free 91 awd legacy wagon with a 4EAT and no roof rack. so i could do a full drivetrain swap. however this car is full of dings and has hail damage and need the hood and fenders replaced due to dents. and it would need to be painted too as it is pretty faded since it is a texas car.

the problem is that i am not sure i want another wagon and there will still need to be a lot of work done in the swap and i dont have enough to buy the wagon now.

Hey there,
I pmed you. I was thinkin, if you have access to rust free corners. Like the rear rockers and quarter panels that would be the simplest. forming new metal is a pain in comparison. I still think white suits these cars great, they just dont look good in exotic colors IMHO.
