Howdy Y'all
I have been on the road for the past week, so I am giving my two-bits
worth on everything I can at once.
1. I wasn't really hurt by being scolded about being an alleged
scofflaw. I love to get a rise out of people, so feel free to dish it
out whenever you like.
2. I run Castrol Syntek and change it and the filter every 5000 miles or
so. I think synthetic is a lot better in a turbo car because turbos
cook the hell out of oil and it turns to coal in your turbo bearings. I
have no opinion on Mobil 1 versus Syntek. I know for a fat that Mobil 1
is no good for starting a campfire. It doesn't even burn. That is a
good quality for turbo oil. If I had a NA car I would run Castrol
dinosaur oil and change it every 5000 miles.
3. Before I had an APEXi AVC-R, I disconnected the hoses from my boost
control solenoid valve and ran them through an adjustable pop-off valve
with a 1/16th" hole drilled between the wastegate can and the pop-off
valve to relieve trapped pressure. It worked great up to about 10psi at
which point the ECU fuel cut kicked in. I always left the stock unit
plugged in electrically. I have run one of those pop-off valves on my
fleet of 84 Colt turbo cars for many years and have never had a
problem. I like them a lot better than bleed valves.
4. Brake rotors warp when you work them hard then stand on the brakes in
a
stationary position. Never touch your brake pedal when brakes are hot
and you are still. The calipers cause the hot rotors to set in a warped
position. Never let the monkeys at a tire store bolt on your wheels.
They warp your rotors and they strip your studs.
5. Never let the monkeys at a quick lube place touch your air filter.
They never put all the screws back in and your car will suck dirt.
6. What would be your best guess at an appropriate wastegate duty cycle
and boost setting for my AVC-R on my 92 Legacy
Turbo with 3" exhaust and an overboost limiter cheater? I guess I would
like to run a maximum of about 12psi for the time being.
Love

Hi Bill, I do have the AVC-R installed a month ago, but still playing
the setting!! I would like to know more about your setting eventhough
you could say I'm a copy-cat, but I will re-adjust down little bit
since I just have a K&N flat filter and stock exhaust!!
I set the boost on 1.15 kg/cm2 at 50% duty and .90kg/cm2 at 60% duty,
I don't know how to calculate the duty cycle too, please help!!
Also what did you done on your BOV??? I don't understand about your
mod , could you post some pics then I could learn on you?
I know you are having fun on those unit, it gives very helpful info
while you drive!
Where are you mount your AVC-R? I made myself a good looking (???)
bracket to hole it and with the scarm boost bottom too, hope I could
scan it this weekend and post it to let you guys take a look.
Enjoy Your Legacy
(^-^)...have fun!
