I picked up the hood scoop and the two fake hood vents from a 97 Impreza Outback Sport at a wrecking yard for $125 US. I took out the old Makita grinder and began surgury on the underside of the scoop. My legacy hood is not recessed to accept this sucker flush, but with all the undersides ground off, it only sticks up about 1/8" above being flush with the hood and it looks fairly nice. As it has a bigger footprint, it can be bigger than my hand-sculpted one that fits the Legacy, and still not have an ungainly too-tall-for-its -width appearance. I could gain a bit more airflow by enlarging the stock hood hole a little bit, but I am hesitant to take a grinder to a perfectly good rare hood. The interior will need a bit of streamlining to eliminate areas where pressure and turbulence can build up , but that should be pretty easy. If I enlarge the hood hole, then I will also drill a few holes and JB Weld a few bolts to the underside of this scoop. If I do not enlarge the hole then I will attempt to rely on a combination of silicone seealer and super duper mounting tape. I'll keep you posted.
On the subject of glasspak mufflers, I have a 3" exhaust with a street rod type bullet glasspak with 3" openings and more importantly, a 3" hole all the way through. A lot of glasspaks actually neck down inside and force the exhaust through the packing material. A trip through the packing material on my muffler is strictly optional. It flows very freely, but some people (such as the Canadian Mountie) that was in my face a couple of weeks ago) suffer from the misperception that it is rather loud.

I learned a little something from an old-school hot-rod buddy of mine. He
says that if before you install it you pour some gas down the glasspak and
then light it on fire, you'll burn out all of the glass fibers; thus when
you install it, it'll have more of that throaty glasspak sound right off the
bat. Granted, I've never done it (i like my eyebrows thank-you-very-much)
but he swears by it.

Hood Scoop and Glasspak
so how do you think an 18" by 2 1/4" one would sound on a turbo
legacy with 2 1/4" exhaust? louder than your 3" glasspak and exhaust?
