engine identification
I have here an engine, probably from a legacy. the numbers which I find, its ej20 and 640619. The engine is a 4cams en with turbo. but see only ej20 standing and not ej20t!
can someone tell me of which year this engine is?

Normally, the identification on the block will only say EJ20.
My EJ22t only says EJ22 at the front (down on the block b/w the p/s pump and alternator).
Hope that helps a bit.

You can but it would be a step backwards. For starters you would greatly reduce the flow. Old does not mean bad. The EJ20G (That is what you have) heads flow much better than the EJ254 DOHC heads.vw_speedsterke wrote:can I assemble the cylinder heads of a my98 on this engine?
And then there is a whole combustion chamber volume issue. The EJ20G combustion chamber is 57cc and has a CR of 8.5:1 Putting the 47cc EJ254 heads on there would send you up over 9:1. If you wanna boost it, keep the stock heads.
If it ain't broke don't fix it...

hmm i have a couple questions on this.
what are the specs on the ej20g??
the ej20 that ive been lookin at has tags that says BF5 which would be a wagon?? the mechanic says its an ej20T from a 95 JDM WRX. it has the air to water intercooler on it, DOHC heads, he says it has a TD-05, and all the writing on it says ej20T.
another question, are the ej20t and ej20g fuel injectors the same color? if they arent, what are the colors? the motor i saw looks like it has gray injectors.
anyway thanks for any help.

i heard the wagons had the smaller td-04 though. and these motors look all stock. im pretty sure they are as well. they have all the stock exhaust piping with turbo chimney's as well. so im a bit confused... this mechanic said it came from a sedan. maybe that BF5 meant something else... not sure. but thanks for the replies guys.
anyway i have another question, i'm going to be hybriding that motor with ej22t heads, intake manifold, fuel rails, etc. basically i will just be using the shortblock of the ej20t. has anyone ever done this? i will be doing that so i can use the electronics of the ej22t as i already have those. anyway thanks a lot for any help. i dont know much about these ej20's.... thanks!
