'60's Contis had clap doors (rear suicide, no pillar). The Lincoln Kennedy was assassinated in was this type.

do a volvo 122 2dr.
pros:
light
cheaper than early 50's iron
looks like early 50's iron
a lot of em are rust free
linked rear end=airbags easy
you can also make them handle
unique

cons:
it will take some creativity to fit a v8(though it has been done)
Its a volvo?

Chevy LUV pickup
pros:
fits a v8 pretty well
cool looking
light
CHEAP

cons:
terrible handling
terrible brakes
hard to find a nice one
terrible weight distribution
(most of these cons can be fixed of course)

those are the two I'd build. I'd build the LUV more towards a drag truck, and the volvo more towards a lead sled that could handle.

If it has to be old, go with a Mini. I went with a friend to a vintage car race with old Porsche's, Ferrari's, Mustangs, Sprites, anything antique. Nothing could keep up with the Mini's on the straights or through the curves. I have to admit that I preferred the sound of the Mustangs though.
They look cool too:

Old Volvo's are cool, and swap-able. I was discussing this topic with some fellow car dorks and came to the conclusion that if I were to hot rod something it would probably be an older truck, lots of potential and could be pretty unique.
