Snagged a remote control from an HP media center PC

Its got about a 100 foot range, dunno why Id need that, but it's there.

No more screwing around with the screen while trying to drive!

Too bad your PC's in your trunk instead of the footwell now. You could totally hook up Vikash's ECU scan tool to the parallel port. Of course, you''d have to boot into DOS whenever you wanted to use it, but hey, if the infrastructure's there...

what's wrong with fabing up a parallel port cable that goes back to the trunk?

Nothing except that it's a bit more work to do it and make it look good. I suppose since Raquel hasn't stealthed the other cables yet it wouldn't be too bad, though.

Actually I did have a cable hooked up to the PC, but I fried something and the tool wont work now

I did something like tis years ago to a guy Pantara it was hell as he has less room than you but it was hot.. he took all to the UK and I lost my pics of the install but it was sweet but it look like Knight Rider..then again it was before that show came out too.

I was thinking same as the Legacy wagon i just got came with out a radio(it was ripped off before I go the wagon) it was simi-cleam removeble but it hard to drive with no sounds and that bog hole in the dash.

Just pulled out all the seats and carpeting and ran the wires a little better. Now there are no wires you can see anywhere from outside the car. THe only visible wires are the ones that run up the right side of the drivers seat and under the console, but you have to actually pull the seat back to see them.

Also working on the final version of the screen bezel. Trying to make it look really clean.

Question on the bezel mounting... I have also been looking at 8" screens and I'm wondering how much space I could make for it. How wide is the 7" screen, measuring the outside of the housing? I was planning on doing a custom bezel anyway but I don't want to cut into anything but the black part.

An 8 inch screen will fit no problem in the bezel with a bit of modification.

Well, I fried my motherboard while it was on the test bench. As is my style, broken parts = time for upgrade.

Traded some harddrives and stuff I had for a Sempron 3000+ and an Asus K8V-MX/S

Its a decent upgrade. The Sempron is a low-power CPU, so I should be able to run it at near-stock performance levels. The motherboard also supports S3 suspend mode, so I can leave the computer 'sleeping' when Im only going to be away from the car for 6-12 hours, without killing the battery. The turn on time from S3 suspend is about 6 seconds, vs 30 coming out of hibernation. This also means I can run more system ram, so I can buffer more of the interface.

Im also working on a custom enclosure that will bolt to the underside of the parcel shelf, an addition 200GB of HD space bolted to the underside of the passenger seat, and a CD/DVD+-RW mounted in the stock ashtray location.

Cool, sounds like a good upgrade. Waiting for pictures of the custom enclosure.

And BTW, the 8 inch screen does NOT fit in the stock bezel. I tried it.

Well, it sort of fits out of the case. It's a pain in the ass to attach it without the front part of the case, but I could probably do it. The problem is that I would have to chop off the mounting blocks for the stock stereo, which I don't want to do because I'm not planning to keep this car forever.







You can basically see the size of it... it is pretty much exactly the same width and height of the stock bezel and very thick. I'm sure I could mount it behind there but it would take a lot of hacking in the dash.
