Thank you very much Legacy...I appreciate the link to the info on the DOHC. I will definitely be sure I get it decked. Like I said, I am in no rush for this and I want to make sure that I do this right.

Get in my car and start driving yesterday and it starts hesitating badly under acceleration. It came out of nowhere, it was running perfect all week. After some checking and talking to a good friend, it has to be something with the spark or fuel. I checked the coil, plug, wires and everything was good. It's running on all cylinders. I replaced the fuel filter several months ago so I figured that it has to be the fuel pump. The car just seems like it is starving for fuel under acceleration and I figured it might need a new fuel pump. When it is at a constant speed, the car is fine, its just under acceleration. So, to be pro-active with the EJ22T that I hope to drop in, I ordered a Walbro 255 this morning. I hope that does the trick!

I also started working more on the EJ22T and I removed the oil pump, water pump, the cooling pipes, and the t-belt tensioner. I guess there is nothing else that I can do until I get an engine stand.

Here is how she sits right now...

Did some more work tonight as well...removed the turbo, exhaust manifold, and the uppipe. I am definitely in need of an engine stand now. I had my girlfriend holding the block for me while I torqued the bolts off for the exhaust; she is a big supporter....haha. I am looking forward to opening the block.

In 2008 Subaru introduced the STI in dual avcs on the intake and exhaust side instead of just the avcs on the intake side found on the 2004-2007 stis. Avcs works off of oil pressure and since the 08+ sti now have it on both intake and the exhaust camshafts they upped there oil pump to a 11mm pump. Its now got a 11mm rotor in it instead of the 10mm rotor. I currently don't know the specs on the new pump but i do know that they flow a lot better then the prior pumps. A lot of Subaru engine builders are starting to use this pump simply because it works a lot better and its a lot cheaper then the Cosworth pump. I'm currently running this pump in my built 05 sti.

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find any specs on the 11mm pump.

Did some research on the 11mm pumps, and started a thread in the engine forum.

Finally bought an engine stand today, so I took the heads off tonight. It looked pretty nasty to me.

Found a diamond in the rough....fatgc8 and I went to the junk yard this past week and found a '98 Outback with DOHC. I am going to go back on Tuesday to get a lot of the parts I will need like the dipstick, DOHC covers, tensioners, gears, timing belt tensioner, etc.

Does anyone know what else I should pull of this monster? Will all of the coolant pipes and crossover coolant pipe work for my build?

Intake manifold, fuel rails, basically the complete intake. Complete heads, dipstick, coolant pipes, timing covers, tensioner and bracket behind the tensioner. For the life of me I don't understand why people would use the old style tentioner. It really sucks! Make sure you keep all the cam caps in order when you pull them. For each cam.

Thank you tturnpaw...I pulled off the dipstick, cam position sensor, outer timing covers, some cam gears (the two on the passenger side I couldn't get off because they turn freely for some reason and I am going to go back and try again at some point to try and get them off.)

The heads I am going with EJ20G. So with that and after reading the DOHC installation thread, I am not sure if the EJ25 coolant pipes, inner timing covers, or intake manifold. It has the old style tensioner so I might just be taking off the bracket.

As far as other things that I got from the junkyard today....I found a nice e-brake out of the 98 outback I needed, almost brand new ignition coil, battery tie-down, misc bolts and grommets, an oil cap, and some pretty cool front top perch mount covers that I have never seen before.

After installing some NGK Coppers, new plug wires, and the coil, the car is fixed and runs great! I finally found an install kit for the Walbro fuel pump here locally at a great Subaru shop. I was so happy they helped me out.

So all in all, the car is running great and the next item on the list (besides the motor build) is to fix my A/C! It is getting hot here in Phoenix...about 95 right now but it is supposed to be well above 100 here in 2-3 weeks.

Cleaned these bad boys up today...amazing how nice they look now. I installed them and took my time. I can't believe how amazing these things are! All I did was back it out of the garage and I instantly felt like I was now driving a Ferrari!

I was also getting a code 35 for the past couple of days - Canister purge solenoid valve code - so I went today to the junkyard and picked up a few. I installed it and what do you know!?...the CEL went away! It seems like it worked. I found a solenoid out of a 98 outback and it seems to be working fine.

Yeah I would but I'm really not fond of the color scheme. Do they come in black? I doubt it. I'm waiting to find a good set of 2.5RS in black with solid head rest.
