If that EJ20 is a SOHC, you should be able to swap sensors from your EJ22 over and run it on the stock ECU. You'll just have less power, but it should be plug and play affair.

The seller is claiming it is a DOHC. Then he goes on to say it is a direct fit.

I am calling tommorow to get more info.

Whether it's SOHC or DOHC shouldn't make any difference in and of itself.

Don't think wiring will be too much of a PITA? If I do the swap what do you think will be holding back the HP? What to tweak with ECU? ECU available readily available? I remember reading the EJ20 has the dual port exhaust so I get lucky there. I also remember reading the EJ20 is longer than the 22 so I would have to move the tranny back and shorten the driveshaft.

IS the 20 DOHC more powerfull then the 22?

I live in FL so emissions is not a factor.

You won't need to relocate the transmission or shorten the driveshaft. You probably will have to reroute some of the vacuum lines and stuff though.

I would be surprised if the EJ20 NA DOHC were more powerful than the EJ22 NA SOHC.

There may be complications I'm not thinking of, but wiring should be pretty easy as long as you use as much of your stock equipment as possible:

Transfer the wiring harness from your stock engine's intake manifold onto the new one's. Depending on where components are located (like maybe the IAC valve), you may need to extend or rearrange some of the wires.

You may have to swap over your stock cam and crank position sensors if the EJ20 ones don't connect the same way to the car's harness.

If the EJ20's TPS connector doesn't physically match your stock one, you should swap your stock throttle body over. You may have to do this anyway if the EJ20 throttle body doesn't have the nipple for the purge valve.

If the EJ20 doesn't have a purge valve you should swap your stock one over and find a place to mount it.

Unless the EJ20 injectors are very similar, you may need to swap EJ22 injectors on. If your stock injectors don't fit the EJ20 rails, I would imagine 92-94 non-turbo Legacy injectors would. Or maybe your stock fuel rails could fit the EJ20 manifold.

Use your stock MAF sensor.

If the EJ20 doesn't use waste spark in stock form then you'll need to figure out a way to mount the coil pack to its manifold and might need different boots for the spark plug ends of the ignition leads.

Back on topic here... If only I could confess my real sins. They are both illegal, immoral, and utterly wrong. I'll keep the juicy stuff bottled up untill the day I die. As for the sins, let's see. I once broke into my friends house, just for the thrill, AND what a thrill it was! I was shaking the whole time.
