They made the EJ22 all the way up to 01 the Impreza. It was discontinued in 02. 95 was a new body style, not a face lift. It's a second generation Legacy.

oh, I didn't mean body style, I meant the small parts of the engine, since there was a lot of stuff changed for emissions.

Yours is still 100% Phase I. Your longblock (not the accessories around it) is in no way, shape, or form, different than ours.

All Subaru engines got solid lifters in 97, that was the only change to the engine in that year, and then in 99, the Phase II came out with a bump in compression (and consequently became interference), a change in headflow design, and a move of the thrust bearing location. It appeared in the Legacy for only one year, as the BE-BH's all had EJ25's from then on. The Impreza had the EJ22 through 2001, and then the GD/GG platform came out and the EJ22 was now gone.

All EJ's have been piston/valve interference since 97.

cool info. I'd much rather have a 'preza with an EJ22, IMO. We used to have an OBS, and it was incredibly fun and quick with the EJ22. It had the PhaseII, as it was a 99 Impreza :)

We got rid of it for a civic
