I personally prefer the old car smell. One of my favorite scents, though it varies with age and car. New car smell makes me sick. I have to give props to Mazda for my 3 not smelling too strongly or for that long.
Why'd they display the most old lady 1st generation they could? Didn't want to overshadow the ugliness of the concept? A turbo would've embarrassed that thing and they knew it. Hell and N/A in almost any other color would've embarrassed that thing.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

Quoted from what is still one of my favorite movies of all time, Christine:
"Brand-new, she was. She had the smell of a brand-new car. That's just about the finest smell in the world, 'cept maybe for pussy."
I do like it, although it's supposed to actually be a carcinogen.
In fact, my best friend's dad just got an 09 Mini, and let me take it around the block, as I'd never driven one. I found it fascinating how I never really noticed the new-car smell of my Honda had already gone away until I got back in it after driving the Mini. Oh well.
I agree, however, that nothing evokes memories like an old-car smell. I truly love the way my Legacy smells.

I'm probably behind on this, but pictures of the production car have already popped up on netcarshow.com:

And the last couple of pictures indicate that it's getting a CVT as well.

ehhh......no thanks. I like the styling of the new impreza better than the legacy. If I were to get a newer legacy, I'd probably try and get a 2005-2006 MY.

all i see is G35 in the headlights,
wanna-be BMW fender flares
Altima/maxima/something nissan in the tail lights
Camry curves for sure in the body style as a whole.
this conversation of hating seems to happen w/ every new soob that has been released lol, and i think i will participate in this one because there really are no soob attributes to be found. they are all gone?..
i would buy any legacy over this one, it just looks weird.
if they angled the headlights down... instead of what seems like up in this picture i think it might help.

aaand im going to rescind my comment, i'll take one only if its in black based on the interior, and it will make the headlight awkwardness less noticeable.

also i'd be happy if ppl didn't buy these since subaru (wrx's) have become the new honda and it's annoying.
this doesn't apply to the legacy as much, since we are a much smaller, and less well known group. possibly because of the age of our cars
