I'm stoked. Now, is this for 91 only, or 91-94?

Could you show a pic of the scoop next to the stock? or give dimensions? is it roughly the size of a wrx scoop? I'm just wondering how much bigger it is than our stock hood scoops. most likely I'll be in. I'd like to have a tmic but was toying with the idea of a front mount simply because our hood scoops have no purpose besides ventilation. This looks like it would be much more functional.

It'll bolt to the 91 hood in stock location.. bolt holes and everything. As long as the stock scoop was the same bolt pattern, for the 91-94 year model. It will fit no prob.

^^ the original and new scoop are the same bottom dimensions, bolt pattern and fitability is the same. The other dimensions, height and front lip above the opening are a bit different. The final scoop isn't completed, so I'd hate to give measurements before completion. I think it'll be about as tall as the stock WRX scoop, but with minor differences, including mating to our hood like factory.

My whole purpose behind the design was really functionality. I threw on a few design cues that are for coolness' sake, but it's mainly for our 91-94 cars that came with a defficient scoop for TMIC. I borrowed from the STI's style, but reduced it's size to avoid turbulance.

Thanks ^^

So far, the scoops progress is going well.. Slow, but well. The two bikes in the shop are nearing completion. So the scoop is moving down the waiting list nicely. I should have progress pics soon!

i selected the price first option in the poll. but at 100-110 i am pretty much in for a scoop that will bolt right on inplace of the little stock thing i have now.

i am going to put a tmic on this sprin and was noot looking forward to cutting up a perfectly good hood.

yeah, the mold making process is underway... He said he's working out some details to make the building process as painless and quick as possible.. Though he's still not letting me give him money.. :P I think the dude is too nice for his own good sometime.. hehe but oh well, WHEN I'm dropping money his direction we'll have some very nice things to put on our cars!

:P with the trans dying, I'm going to be a bit slower on the scoop-building funds... So please be patient.. :P

Sorry guys... ^^ and yeah, I'm tired of driving around with a scoopless hood... but even more tired of a 4spd gearbox.. :P

I think we should all pitch in a few $$ to the cause to get the development funded.

How much does it cost for the materials? I'd definitely be down to chip in.

When I got my car I was needing a hood scoop. I had a friend with a 92 up scoop, but it would not fit my car. The 91 scoop is different from the other years. I just wanted to throw this out there for everyones info.

I haven't read the whole thread, but it sounds like one scoop is being made to fit all years of our cars. I don't think this will work. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

What part wouldn't fit?

He's making it based off of his 91 SS hoodscoop...

It's a different shape. The 91 is more rectangular while the later ones had sides that angles off, being wider at the rear than the front if I remember right.

I dont think that it'd just fit just one year.. that'd be poor planning on subaru's part there.. My best option is to ask a subaru dealer what the part numbers are on the scoops and ask it they're interchangable if they're different... I'm thinking BlackBart will know better than the subaru dealer on fitment.. :P The local dealership has a tiny screen that they can view part diagrams with and they're a Chrysler/Subaru dealership, dealing mostly in Mopar.. :P

Oh and I'll let Pippen know that you guys would pay for materials, but I'm thinking that wont be necessary.. *It'll help motivate him on the build though I think.. :P* From the sounds of it, I might not be buying the first ones.. hehe But it's all the same from his end... I'm thinking there's a good run that wont sit around.

^^

Hmmm Jeff might be right.

I mean the 91 (prefacelift) might have a different scoop than the 92-94 (post facelift).

ok but from a different angle  it would be VERY effective planning because you can still use the SAME molds for construction and material(s) management.
economically it makes perfect sense, why wouldn't they?
use the same materials....etc you know

I totally get that. But maybe they came up with that theory in 1992 and used it up til 1994? Haha.
