I can't buy the block alignment pins separately. Anyone have at least one they could spare?

Thanks

People typically hoard those things though.

Well....rechecked the bearing clearances again today.....and I don't know....I just think last weekend was not a good working on the motor weekend. I checked all the rod clearances again, and they were all right around .0015". The one thing I did different was made sure the plastigauge was on the cap side of the rod bearing. Not sure if putting it on the rod side makes a difference or not, but it seemed when I checked on the rod side even today, the clearance was a little less. I don't know.
I do have one rod bearing that seems a little tweaked. The side that clips in is pretty well centered, and then the other side is just slightly un square. It's not much, but I can see it. Here's some pictures....you really can't tell too much though from the pics.

Checked the main bearings as well, and they too were all around .0015" clearance. A little more than what the standard tolerances are, but they should be ok.

I don't really see it as an issue, but I'm not a professional engine builder.

Well the rebuild is going at a snail's pace. Got the oil temp sensor bung welded and painted on the oil pan. I need to gap the piston rings, and the motor will be ready to go together.
Here's pics of the oil temp sensor & bung

Looks good.
I'm curious as to how well your ring grinder works. I'll never use a file again since it takes so long, but I've also heard the manual crank grinders take a while too.

Yeah, I'll let you know how the ring grinder works. It's got a diamond coated wheel....so we'll see.

Files and grinders are both good but the grinder should be more consistent.

After a little hiatus I started work on the motor again. The piston ring grinder worked out pretty well. It didn't take much to grind the rings down.
I've got the short block built. I ran into a possible issue with sealant.

Hopefully it will harden, but if it doesn't, I'll split the block halves and use some new stuff.

Alright!!! I'm glad you're in it again

. I hope everything works out, I can't imagine RTV Sealant have a shelf life and it not being specified on the package.
I don't know how much help I can be, but if you need any just let me know and I'm there

.

Thanks for the pics , now I know the oem oil cooler off those STi's will fit

I got a water pump off a EJ257 with the extra nipple capped for now until I order one of those. What fitting did you use for going into the block for the coolant?

Hey Josh, is the oil cooler/water pump from a 91 SS or newer block?

This oil cooler is off the newer turbo motors. I got all the parts from the newer turbo motor.
Josh, there's a nipple that threads into the bottom of the block that the coolant goes back into.

Played with the timing belt/adjustable timing pullies today. I didn't quite like how things sat, so I'll be looking at them again next weekend.

Ya I hate how people rebuild there engines, but don't bother to clean anything, its like whats the point of having it out if you don't clean it

Yup, that's why you do it yourself. Most shops won't go that extra mile and clean every little thing (and get that old greasy lump from down in that pocket that no one will see but the owner).
Looking good Josh. Can't wait to see it back up and running.
