Spark Plugs and Engine Identification

First, let me say that I have done lots of serious mechanic work, including rebuilding several engines, replacing awd clutches etc and changing the spark plugs on an EJ22T can be a tough task. The plug wire boots can really cook on and are hard to remove without tearing them. I have had to pull them with a hand-made noose before. I usually remove the windshield washer jug to get at #3. Maybe I'm just a wimp.
Now for my real purpose in writing. I'm the guy with two slightly different EJ20G engines and am trying to determine what valvetrain and deck they have without tearing into both of them. Okay you guys from Oz and NZ here it is.......
One has only one bolt holding each spark plug coil into the valve cover, while the other has two bolts holding each spark plug coil into the valve cover. Is one design newer and or more exotic than the other? Please help me, no other source of information has done me any good.
Thanks in advance
