Since the stock fuel pump is one of the first weak links to reveal itself in turning up the wick on an EJ22T, I would assume that it would also be the first weak link to pop its head up when trying to sort out an EJ20. I would guess that a Walbro pump would be a good start. You might not need a rising rate piggyback fuel pressure regulator, as the stock regulator oin an EJ20G and EJ22T are identical and the EJ20G has bigger injectors. I think the rising rate fuel regulator is primarily to squeeze a bit more spray out of the wimpy EJ22T injectors.

A rising rate fuel pressure regulator (RRFPR) increases fuel pressure with
every extra PSI of boost you run. Some regulators are setup in a 4:1 ratio
some (extreme case here) are 12:1.

The ratio (4:1 for example) relates an increase for 4 psi of fuel pressure
for every 1 psi increase in air pressure. This makes sure that enough fuel
is given to the engine.

I prefer fuel tuning to be done by a big fuel pump, precise injectors, and a
kick ass aftermarket ECU; rather then this system. While more expensive,
it's more efficient.

The stock wiring harness has 2 wires for the ignition coil, the EJ20 ECU has 4 wires for the coil packs. There is spot for the wires on either side of the 2 EJ22 wires.

Anyone know where a EJ20 ECU might be obtained? I am working on a EJ22
t with dual cam heads and running 26lbs of boost. The lobes for the
exhaust valves are staggered as to timing to start a stir of the
incoming charge and this stir is blowing the spark out and giving a
misfire code on occasions and we might want to try the quad coil
setup for a little healthier spark. Right now we are running it with a
'98 ECU.

I am still using the stock pressure reg on my EJ22t but went with
the Walbro because what we found was that when you get to a certain
point with these motors it gets to be a matter of volume. The stock
pump just can't handle it and pressure will drop at the high end. But
sometimes a better regulator will be needed because of high boost
fighting fuel pressure.

have you considered, or tried running an MSD II ignition unit.....since you're talking about the 98....it probably has the updated coil pack to make use of the higher ignition source.

I know Dave has one setup on his TW......may be worth a try as trying to find an EJ20 ECU might be a little tough.....

ya, we thought about it this car belongs to a engineer in Montana and
he is pretty sharp and wonders with the high RPM (over 8000) this
thing is turning if there would be enough time for the multi-spark
system to operate correctly there is a limit to everything. Anyone
know about this or have opinions? I always have had pretty good luck
with the stock ignition but I am not going as far with this as he is.

Im running a quad coil setup on my 93 RS cause the
standard coils wouldnt fit inside the updated heads i
put on, its works fine.. using bosch HEC716 coil pack
and 8mm high energy leads..

Hi..im running a quad coil setup on my 93 RS cause the
standard coils wouldnt fit inside the updated heads i
put on, its works fine.. using bosch HEC716 coil pack
and 8mm high energy leads..

Lots we haven't dynoed it yet will let you know when we do. The most
we have gotten out of a EJ22t other than this one was on the dyno
at 318hp it was also running 26lbs boost but that was with stock
heads.

He checked on the MSD II today I guess that it only has multiple spark
up to 3000 rpm then it switches to conventional spark.

compression the spark can be blown out and the multiple spark high
energy ignition units supply a good hot spark and additionally give
several sparks rapidly during the allowable time to keep timing close.
This is just in case the first spark is blown out or fails to ignite
the charge.

Why would it not be continued past 3000 rpm......lack of time between sparks as RPM increases......

I am not sure possibly there is not enough time to get more than one
spark when the RPM gets that high. This is just what he told me about
the MSDII unit.
