~~~~~
What:
~~~~~
The City of Merritt will soon play host to an intense motorsports
competition as rally teams from around BC converge here for the Merritt
Rally Challenge on April 27th. This event for production-derived cars
is presented by the Vancouver-based motorsport club, the West Coast
Rally Association (WCRA). Currently the WCRA organizes several forms of
rally competition throughout BC and the Merritt Rally Challenge will be
the lead-in to the next full-scale performance rally event, the Pacific
Forest Rally, to be held here later on June 8th.

~~~~~~
Event:
~~~~~~
At the Merritt Rally Challenge, competitors will have the opportunity to
sample two types of rallying, depending on their level of vehicle
preparation. This "challenge" is actually two events in one: a
single-road performance rally with 50 km of special stages, followed by
a rallycross. Teams are welcome to enter either portion or both,
however the requirements for entering each portion are different.

The 50 km performance rally is governed by the CARS Performance Rally
Regulations (Part B of the CARS rulebook), whereas the rallycross is
governed by the CARS Rallysprint regulations (Part C). The rallycross
portion can be done in an un-modified closed-bodied road vehicle, with
three-point seatbelts and helmets bearing Snell 90 (M or SA) or newer
labels. The 50km performance rally portion requires the full safety
equipment as defined by the CARS rulebook (6 point cage, 5 or 6 point
harnesses, etc.)

~~~~~
Type:
~~~~~
The first portion of the rally is a performance rally consisting of
special stages and transits. The total length of the event will be
approximately 100 km including approximately 50 km of special stages.
Road surfaces will be dirt and rock. The second portion of the rally is
a rallycross, consisting of a temporary course laid out on a large, flat
gravel surface.
