high idle

I am having problem with my idle speed, much like Josh was. When I
first start the car it has trouble finding a steady idle, jumping
back and forth from about 1000 to below 500 RPM. After a couple
seconds it evens out at around 800 RPM and it begins its slow
increase. After about 1 or 2 minutes of running (after it has warmed
up a little) it is idling at 1300 or 1400 RPM, sometimes even 1500.
But the really strange thing is that if I pump the brakes a couple
times, the idle initially raises up about 200 RPM, then it drops back
down to the correct idle level(about 700)! It stays at the correct
level for a couple seconds then it jumps back up to 1400 RPM. Has
anybody seen this before??

Sounds like a vacuum leak of some sort, as pumping the brakes would
use some of the vacuum created by the engine.

Yeah.....I'd sorta concur with what dave said. Sounds like a vacuum leak or some other vacuum issue.

I'd start there first.......you didn't do anything to your TB did you?

No, i didn't do anything to my TB. If I had a vaccum leak, would I
see abnormal readings on my boost/vaccum gauge? I get consistant
readings of 20(in hg) at idle.

try pullin codes.....maybe you got a sensor out of whack.

Also could try resettting the ECU.

I get a o2 sensor error code. I've known my o2 sensor is bad because
my car is running rich...so rich that carbon spits out the exhaust
sometimes. My AF meter says I am running rich at idle and lean while
driving. Could the o2 sensor cause a high idle?
thanks, NOah

It's possible.....if you are getting a code for it, and you have cleared the codes and it continues to come back, I would definitely replace it and go from there. Who knows what problems or other issues are there due to the bad O2 sensor.
