Ok, I finally found the black plugs to get the error
codes. It took a lot of super-uncomfortable laying on
my back, but I shouldn't have to do much of that again
now that I know where they are.

I got an error code 35, canister purge solenoid
inoperable. In researching the problem I've come up
with more questions and no real answer.

In one email, someone (jk) said replacing the fuel
filter got rid of the error code. Has anyone else
fixed the error code 35 by replacing the fuel filter?
I think I'll replace it anyways as it hasn't been
replaced in at least 12 months.

Al said to replace the solenoid with one from a early
model suby, problem with this is that apparently there
are two of them. If I need to replace both of them,
should I just find two old solenoids and use those?
Al?

Man...I need to get the FSMs.

on my previous N/A Liberty I had this error code also and simply replaced the solenoid - sits just under the inlet manifold on the left side looking into the engine bay, behind the power steering pump area...... a bit of a bitch to get to....there is only one solenoid (electronic)

FYI there is another purge control valve but it works on a vacuum and is not electronic, this one is seen attached to the hose coming from the charcoal canister.

The solenoid thing is cake to replace. It's under the pass side intake runners, there is a vacuum line that goes to it from the TB, and then two lines run to the charcol canister.

I'm not sure on the price of the solenoid though

Part number for the canister purge solenoid valve is 14774AA351 I am
pretty sure www.subaruparts.com has them for around 60 bucks. A good trick
if you replace it, pick up some new rubber vacume lines from the local parts
store (bring an old one in, they will be able to match it, cost next to
nothing per foot) and replace the old lines. I have replaced a few of these
and after I was done, had to go back and replace the lines because the old
ones stretched/weathered and weren't holding a vacume. Just an once of
prevention. Hope this helps, john k
